  • Not sure some of you are getting "The Lounge" concept...

Friends, this area can be completely void of aviation/rc talk if you want it to be. You can discuss movies, current affairs, life in general here. Let your hair down (for those of you who have hair, for the rest of us don't judge) and get to know your fellow "Squawkers" outside the realms of the hobby that brings us together...

Of course like mentioned before, politics and religion should be avoided only because they are such hot topics that can go south quickly with opposing viewpoints. Otherwise speak open and freely about any other topic you can imagine!

    Bring it! :D

I'm having the oil changed in my Subaru tomorrow, then, I'm driving to Albuquerque to visit my 91 year old mother in a nursing home. I'm going to check my mail box on the way back. Doc

91? Wow...My grandmother made it to the ripe old age of 97. All you can ever ask for is a long, happy life. Hope that's the case with your mom.

Thanks. I'm afraid nursing homes are not exactly happy. She is one of the few in the place who are still lucid. Oh... the people there love it when I take my planes for show & tell. Something all you guys might consider doing to bring a spark of light into these folks lives. Lots of retired military in these places. Doc

My mother in law spent the last year or so of her life in a nursing home. Prior to that she lived with us. Back then I was still working as a K-9 Handler and my partner was a 100+ pound German Shepherd. My mother in law loved him. He would bite your a$$ off if I told him to, but at home he made over her like she was his puppy or something.

It didn't take long to discover one reason he loved her was, if she had a treat, that meant he had a treat. I caught her feeding him everything from cookies to yogurt. I told her 100 times not to feed him people food, I would give her dog treats just to give to him, but noooo, she wanted to share her snacks with him.

When she moved to the nursing home, I would take my partner to visit her. He loved to play fetch and would spend as much time as I allowed him, to fetch tennis balls that she and her fellow patients would toss down the hallway. It was very rewarding for me to hear her and her roomies giggle as this big vicious police dog would retrieve a tennis ball and gently lay it in the lap of a 90 year old woman sitting in a wheel chair then, wait excitedly for her to toss it again.

So yes, please tell your Mom "Hi." Remind her, we may all have to grow old, but we absolutely don't have to grow up.

                    Jim

My great grandmother passed when I was 5 or 6 years old. Not real sure. She was 101 years old, chewed warren county twist tobacco and grew up on boss island which is a high spot of ground/farming community that was located in what is now the Cache River State Natural area/little black slough.

Trying to get something going for the off season, so I thought I'd get back into oil painting and experiment around with the spray gun.
I've seen some interesting pin up girl reproductions and I was thinking about trying to reproduce a metal surface on canvas board and painting a pin up girl over it, the result would look like a panel removed from an old plane. It could be an interesting project.
Also a good time to finish my P 40 Flying Tiger painting as well as figure out what to do with the Memphis Belle painting. The Belle has herself (of course) with two P 47's peeling away from her, similar to the shot in the documentary when they leave England for America. I did a lot of research to find out the squadron markings on the P 47's but no luck.
