I am in my 50th year of flying RC.. (don't hate me!! :) ) and I have learned over the years to always go, within reason, with the best radio that you can afford.. Not saying it needs to be the most expensive rig out there. but if you are in this hobby for any length of time, you will be surprised how often having that extra channel/channels could come into play..
When you get into larger models, you may want to have multiple servos on your ailerons and elevators.. having separate channels to MIX the extra servos, so that you can trim each individually really helps to make for a lot easier and accurate setup....
Yes, you can fly larger models with less channels, but with computer radios that we have now, why not put them to use??
