  • New AR637T AS3X can't get gain screen on DX9

I just finished programming my first AR637T on my DX9 and can't get the AS3X gain screen that is added in telemetry on the TX to show actual gains. I programmed 25 AR636's over the last several years and on a DX9 (and most others) you can add on the telemetry menu AS3X which will allow you to access an AS3X screen on your TX via roller that shows the FM you are in, the gains on R/P/Y, the Actual gains for each the RX is putting out and the Heading Gain. These screens are active when bound to a RX that is on. Other screens show Flight Log and anything you program the telemetry to show. With the AR636, the screen works perfectly. When I finished programming the AR637T and added the screen, it's now there but doesn't show any gains across the board, just dashes. The way the AR637T comes with "factory reset", the gains are not active until the throttle is advance to about 25%, which I notice from how the surfaces move only after initial throttle advance, but still the screen only shows dashes. I know the gains are programmed in, from looking at them in the "Forward Programming" menu and the way the surfaces react. I've looked everywhere in the manuals and watched all the HH programming videos, but that telemetry screen is not mentioned anywhere for the AR637T (only old ones for the AR636). I'm assuming that if you can get it with the AR636, doesn't make sense that you can't with the new AR637T since it has 10 times the features and ability to program in many ways.

Also added a satellite receiver, the 9747 with an internal antennae, but wonder what is the difference (and which is better) between that and the 4651 with dual diversity antennae, which I also have as a spare. The HH descriptions don't tell me much and they haven't responded to my questions.

I know this is relatively new, but if anyone can steer me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. The screen is not all that important, but I always check it first prior to take-off to make sure the gains are "active" and are correct.

I would ask in this thread https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...errerid=655764 on RCGroups. Andy or Miguel should be able to clarify for you. Great receivers, I've purchased 5 in the last two weeks. If you paste the link delete http://%5BURL=%22 from the beginning of the link and it will work.

Thanks, but HH finally answered me. That telemetry screen you can access even in-flight on the roller ONLY works with the AR 636 only and not the 637T. They claim the only way to see the gains programmed is through Forward Programming menu, AS3X gains, etc to each flight mode. Of course, you need to engage the throttle cut switch to access this, so you can only see it on the ground when the throttle is disengaged and it only shows the gains programmed, not the "actual" gains the other screen shows with the 636. The actual of course changes as you move the sticks depending on the priority you put in, but with the 636, it's a nice screen to check just before take-off to make sure everything is working in order. You'd think since the AR637T where the T stands for telemetry, that would be a screen that would also work with it, but I guess they should have called it the AR637T-less. Wonder what bright programmer thought it should be eliminated with the new receiver. I agree, they are great receivers and easier to program than the 636 was, but I just got used to that one after having 25 of them.

Glad someone else has got an answer to this... I was in the same dilemma, thinking surely the Telemetry AS3X screen would work as per usual on my AR9350/AR7350/AR636, but clearly not with the AT637T. As has already been said, I like the forward programming instead of an IOS app, but the AS3X screen was also helpful in the past and in my opinion is a shortsighted omission in a receiver that has built in telemetry!

I'm debating putting a satellite receiver on the AR637T simply due to the excess frame losses I'm seeing from it compared to other receivers. It has been reported in various other forums but Andy from Spektrum was quite dismissive that 100+ frame losses in a 5 minute flight is perfectly acceptable, whereas I usually see less than a handful, if any, on other Spektrum receivers.

I'm with you brother, the more they move forward, the further they move away from something helpful. I do like the receiver however and I have started putting a satellite receiver in most of my jets, along with some ferrite chokes on the leads coming out of the ESC as recommended in another thread (I think it was the F-4 thread after Ben from the UK lost his signal on a AR636), just in case. In that thread, someone had an electronics specialist for a friend and he said the high draw ESC's in jets cause an RF signal that interfered with the "hand shake" in the receiver, even if your antennae are away from the battery. He lost his signal in his A-10 and another, but since adding the chokes, no problems. I had given Ben my programming in the 636 for his F-4 and my spm files from my transmitter and he set it up exactly the same but lost signal, so it got me a little concerned with my 2 F-4's. I now have the chokes and satellites receivers in both F-4's and 6 of my jets just to be safe. Putting the AR637T in an A-10 I'm currently working on and I did add a satellite receiver, the SPM9747 with internal antennae. Also have a SPM4651T satellite receiver with dual antennae for diversity but not sure which I'll use. I asked HH which they recommend, why and what's the difference in the 2 (both recommended in the 637T manual), but as usual, no answer yet after almost 2 weeks. BTW, I put the SPM9746 Carbon Fiber remote receiver in the jets with the 636 and it works great, so far that is.
