  • I'm not a fan of Spektrum batteries but 30C should be okay as long as you don't fly the whole flight full throttle.

    • Thanks Evan, should work for me then. I am curious about your thoughts on Spektrum batteries, guys do complain about the cost.

      • They have had okay batteries and really bad ones, performance/ weight wise. I use their radio products and really like them. I just prefer batteries from companies that are battery centric. My go to is Power Hobby but I recommend SMC, they are the current top dog. 5000 is a really good size for this and it really doesn't need a high performance battery. A HRB $60 is a great match.

        • SMC's non-high voltage pack is just $54.95 at the regular price. HCL-HP 22.2V-5000mAh-80C In stock.

Thanks for the tip Evan and nuts-and-volts. I'll check out Power Hobby and SMC batteries. I do sometimes see what appears to be inconsistent remaining power levels between 'identical' Spektrum batteries after similar flights.

                • I see many have re painted the F9F Cougar and they are all Awesome. I really like mine. I did get a short video, but my old Go-pro went dead just in to the flight She is a big kitty cat with the gyro added Love the reverse thrust do to the length of the Parking lot I fly from.

                  • [QUOTE=urrl;n397916]Morning flight. Love that I'm able to wing walk this bird. Wing Walk ? that's a new one on me, never heard that term before. A main wheel landing is what I would call it. I have many planes that are fun to do this type of mean gear only landing I also love doing main wheel touch and goes and never touch down with the Steering gear. Well done sir great flight, nice video

I like the Admiral and the Spektrum Smart Batteries I have admiral batteries that are 10 years old and still get the same flight time out of them as when they were new. I have so many it is beginning to be a hassle trying to remember if I left them Fully charged or brought them down to the Storage Charge. Now with the Smart batteries I can initially set the discharge to a pre determaned time at full charge so if I charge My batteries and for some reason do not go out flying I do not have to worry about discharging them to a storage rate. Every one has a brand they like and I like Admiral and Spektrum. I have tried many other Cheaper brands and did not care for them at all

                      • crikey, i'm getting behind on my internet stalking. still flying the Cougar quiet a bit.

batteries... i've had a very good experience with the Admiral Pros. HRBs not so much.
the helicopter crew at my club really like the SMCs.

Interesting. I have not had good luck with the 4-5 Admiral batteries I have owned, but am getting universally good service and performance from my HRBs in my EDF models.

                          • Admiral black are mediocre at best. The yellow Pro are a bit better. Neither are good value. My opinion.

                            • FYI - Just assembled the FW F9F-8 Cougar and doing receiver setup on the bench. Problem with the main gear doors not cycling correctly. They close when gear is up but remain open when the gear is in lowered position. On advice from tech support at MRC I rebound the receiver with the gear down (main gear doors were still open) but that didn’t remedy the issue. Next thing he suggested the blue box on/off switch may be in off position but it was on. Tried rebinding with gear both retracted and extended. No luck, main gear doors main gears don’t cycle at all in off switch position as expected. Called them back and Tim in tech support figured out the gear were plugged in the single stage port from the factory on the blue box. Moved the plug to the outer starboard port which is the two stage port and everything worked perfectly. Good guys at MRC tech support.

                                • Does anyone know if replacement wings come with the servos and if not how the heck do you route the servo wires through the wings?

                                  • Actually finally able to get a fish wire through the wing. Sure would be nice if the replacement came with servos for the price!

It looks great against the red rock formations.
