Has anyone converted this plane to a twin edf setup? I’m about to give it a shot using two Jetfan 100’s on 12s producing about 15 lbs each.

I’m flying mine with a 160 size turbine and have 6 flights on it. So far the pipe is holding up, but I’m always a bit nervous about it failing mid-flight and losing the plane. Jose, do you know if your kit was one of the first production kits or a more recent kit. I’ve heard that they improved the pipe after they had some failures with the first production run.

Accessing the spring is more difficult than expected because it is retained within the strut with two end caps that are difficult to remove. They are either press fit or threaded into place. My plan is to insert a length of fuel tubing that is slightly smaller than the spring diameter so that it acts as a bump stop for the plunger. My hope is that I can figure out the correct length and thereby limit the compression of the front trailing link strut.

I taxi tested mine today and the front trailing link strut is way too soft on our grass runway. Whenever I let off on the throttle or applied the brakes the front strut would completely collapse. I need to add a spacer or fine a heavier spring setup. Anyone already figured this issue out? Click image for larger version

I maidened the MiG this weekend, what an awesome flying jet! My CG ended up 10mm behind stock. I am using JP Hobby 75x25x5 brake wheels on the mains. So far after 4 flights the thrust tube is holding up fine. I am using Swiwin 140 for power and it is plenty with confident beautiful verticals.

Did anyone have problems with not enough airflow into the turbine on this model? The way they positioned the tanks they block vital airflow into the engine. This may also be the reason for the melted thrust pipes. The pipes are cooled by airflow entering through the intake bell of the pipe and around it. We may also be loosing thrust without enough air entering the engine compartment. In general I noticed my engine is running hotter than normal and it seems most of the air is entering via the nose gear hole.
This is a bad design. I will maiden my plane the way it is but this all very worrisome.

This pipe issue looks terrible. I have just finished mine and am ready for maiden. After some testing the breaks are so week they will not even hold the plane at turbine idle. I bought JP 75mm wheels+break assemblies to replace. Does anyone know where to source a different pipe?

Hi guys, here is an update on my experience with my Mig - 29.
5 flights of 4 minutes each over 2 days and my pipe is melted. To date I have replaced 2 main retract motors. Main wheels and brakes with JP wheels and brakes because it had no brakes out of the box. Black Horse and Motion needs to do some extensive testing on this model and give a longer period of 30 days warranty.

I believe the manufacturer need to fix this problem and provide the replacement retract motor assemblies to the current buyers. Also, for future buyers. Caution for the few that are already flying. The retracts may work now, but could fail and landing gears would not come down in your last flight.

Resume MiG-29 this week after long delay. Found retract motor assemblies have fundamental design problems. Two out of three had failed. The motor would keep spinning and not able to drive the threaded shaft. Have you flown yours yet? If so what did you find on the neutral position of the elevators? What size turbine did you use? Any feedback is much appreciated!

I don't trust the spec or turbine recommendation on MotionRC website or BH site. They show it weighs 27 lb. I put mine on Xicoy CG meter and it is 23.46 lb dry with 160 turbine. Tanks combined are 4,200cc which is about 9lb,so it is about 33lb wet
I have this same question. Is it safe to fly with 140N, or should we go for 160?

Thanks to N4speed! Your recommendations were spot on. Just did a maiden and two more flights on the MiG today. What a great flying airframe! I’m very happy with this one it a keeper!

I think there would be too much loss of efficiency (efflux) on the bifurcated setup, even if you build a clean duct and get rid of the metal pipe.

Hi, would it be possible to convert this airplane to EDF, Jetfan 130 pro ? What do you think ?

23.3 LB dry, 32.4 LB wet. K-142 is a good fit.

I have just received mine. Recommendation says 120-130N turbine, so I plan to install a SW140, but maybe it can outfit a 160N with no issues. How much is your total weight?
