    PROJECT FOIL

F-22 Raptor 90mm EDF Jet from Freewing and Motion RC

The F-22 Raptor is the world's first Fifth Generation fighter that delivers cutting edge advances in low observable "stealth" capabilities, enhanced computer-assisted agility, and precision combat capability. The F-22 represents the future of modern air combat, and its technology continues to set the standard against which all other Fifth Generation fighters are judged.

The Freewing F-22 is a flying RC replica of this innovative fighter jet. Boasting both the lowest stall speed and one of the highest top speeds among all of Freewing's jets, be prepared to fly a wide flight envelope with this visually stunning model aircraft! Freewing's F-22 is capable of maneuvers most other EDFs can only dream of, and our design team considers it a Performer and a Trainer in one. The Freewing F-22 measures 1500mm in length with a wingspan of 1060mm. Assembled from an array of materials including EPO foam, aluminum, carbon fiber, steel, nylon, plastic, and wood, the Freewing F-22 delivers extreme maneuverability and reliable durability on grass runways. The model aircraft features a mixture of sharp panel lines, graduated paintwork, and realistic decals. More than 15 colors of paint and decals combine to represent the subtle but complex surface shades and panels seen on the full-size F-22. The model's main colors appear to slightly "shift" depending on the light conditions, with metallic, matte, and semi-gloss surfaces working to achieve the subtle effect. This isn't your average plain gray jet!

Main Assembly is completed primarily with screws to attach the flying surfaces. The full flying horizontal stabilizers' metal shafts rotate within steel bearings for smooth operation, and their servos along with the aileron and flap servos are housed within plastic trays for easy removal and servicing. As with the recent popular Freewing 80mm L-39, this Freewing 90mm F-22's cockpit is also lined with thin plastic to resist heat damage to the darker cockpit surfaces. The main wings disconnect conveniently with a flexible ribbon wire cable, which smartly reduces the load exerted on the actual electronic connections. A magnetic nose cone encased in molded plastic with raised surface details can be removed easily to reduce the model's length during transport to your flying field. Finally, the onboard MFCB supports expansion of up to eight additional LEDs aside from the pre-installed sequenced landing light.

The Freewing F-22 is simultaneously capable of extreme expert-level maneuvers and sedate trainer-like flying. A widened gear stance and larger-than-scale grass-appropriate wheels greatly improve ground handling on short grass runways. The servo operated nose gear door is also aided by recessed magnets to help hold the doors shut during flight. Even without flaps, the model can takeoff in less than 100 feet! In the flight pattern, the Freewing F-22 truly shines. It is highly maneuverable and very difficult to stall, and can be flown at high angles of attack including high-alpha, and wild maneuvers including Cobra, inverted Immelmans, etc. Overall, our design team developed the Freewing F-22 to be able to fly a similar pattern to that flown by the real F-22 in its popular air show demonstration routine. Despite its extreme capabilities in the hands of expert RC pilots, the Freewing F-22 can also be cruised comfortably at 40%-50% throttle for stable flying as a 90mm Jet Trainer for RC pilots moving up from the 70mm-80mm Jet sizes. In the landing pattern, flaps are not required to slow the model to a long and level descent. If flaps are used, please see the manual for appropriate mixing.

The Freewing F-22 is available in two PNP versions. The Standard version features a 90mm EDF with an all-new 9 blade single piece impeller, factory balanced for precise operation, paired with a 3748-1750kV outrunner brushless motor and 130A ESC. The Deluxe version features a 90mm 12 blade impeller, also molded as a single unit and factory balanced, mounted to a powerful 4075-1390kV inrunner brushless motor and 150A ESC. The F-22's maximum level airspeed has been measured at 170KPH / 106MPH and 190KPH / 119MPH between the Standard and Deluxe versions, respectively.

Expanding the customization possibilities with your model, Motion RC also provides free downloads of 3D Printable files for a complete 3DPUP Cockpit Set, Ejection Seat, Static Display AIM-9, and Static Display Intake/Exhaust Covers. These 3DPUP files in .STL format are optimized for printing on common FDM-type printers and require very minimal assembly. For an additional challenge, a Canopy Frame Set is also available for modelers who want to experiment with a fabricating their own servo-driven opening canopy function.

Overall, the Freewing 90mm F-22 is a very approachable flyer and suitable for pilots moving up to their first 90mm jet from a 70mm or 80mm jet. For pilots already familiar with the handling of a 90mm jet, this F-22 offers the potential to master an expanded set of realistic maneuvers.

Put stealth aside --stand out and be seen ruling the skies with your Raptor today!

Just a couple of teasers for now, to summarize some of the main points of the Freewing 90mm F-22.

Big: The first picture shows my two hand airbrushed Masters that we use for color analysis and paint mold creation. The second picture shows two final factory painted Production models, as a customer would receive. Whereas the production F-4's camo edges are hard and opaque, the production F-22's camo edges remain soft and occasionally translucent just like my hand airbrushed color Master.

Realistic: 14 colors in all, and ten different gray tones, with a new diffused painting process done by hand to subtly mimic the uneven surfaces of the real aircraft. Every Freewing F-22 will be unique in some way.

Customizable with 3DPUPs including cockpit set, weapons set, and opening canopy set, and a bit of extra paint (Tutorial videos to follow):

Customizable, continued: Optional 3DPUP files, available for free download, have been optimized for FDM-style desktop 3D printers.

Versatile: 6s PNP and 8s PNP, with plenty of room for batteries, MFCB, gyro. That's an Admiral 6s 5000 in this picture of my customized F-22...

Professional: This photo shows the factory paintwork on the F-22, as you can expect to receive out of the box. Four layers, multiple sheens. Our sharpest panel lines yet, with our most subtle decal work. Plastic capped intakes, trailing edges, and plastic nose cone with raised detail. Pictures don't do it justice! It's the perfect model to leave as is, or to take a step further with the aforementioned customization.

Stable and Agile: Stay tuned for the videos showing trainer-like handling all the way up to expert-level ballistic flight maneuvers. There are some things only the F-22 can do that its 90mm brethren can only dream of.

I miss our raptors. I once saw them practicing dogfights over the desert. Sonic booms and flares were extra treats.

I'd have to change the livery from Wright Patt to Holloman of course.

                      Looks nice Alpha. Good flying.

I think my su35 can stay with that raptor in slow flight though...;)

Man you guys know how to make a bro happy. I love you guys. I have been waiting a long time for this. The F22 was the first RC airplane I ever flew. Didn't go so well. But eventually I learned how to fly and now I have the 4 s version. I have been holding out buying the LX modles raptor. Now I know why. Because my conscience was telling me you guys had one coming to market. LOL. I will preorder December 1st.

This looks like it'll be one very rewarding jet to own. The way this thing turns... I could've sworn it had thrust vectoring! VERY impressed with it's handling and wide speed range. I've been reluctant to hop into the 90mm class because I like 4+ min flight times (I'm very conservative with throttle).
The care put into the gear design and full flying elevons is great!!

Looks like the detailed cockpit is all plastic, which means no more gatoring. Nice job!

Nice recessed hinges. Flies similar to the LX F-22, but that's a function of the planform. The metal gear retracts and door scheme, and detachable wings are the major differentiator. ARF Plus would be a winner.
