    Those aren't "minor" mods.

    • Totally agree with you, infact , in Italy we using URSS , i did look over aswell, just to make sure!
CCCP remind alote of the Rush band album ( love it )
those are currently card board letters , I used as sample for Callie for measurements.
And please oh please, forgive my English pilots !!
Like the “ mig “ you posted .

      • When you change Cyrillic to the Western alphabet, "CCCP" becomes "SSSR". In English we used USSR for Union of Soviet Socialist Republics.

        • Going to order the Mig 29 when they are back in stock. So while I wait thought I would sort out one concern I have with Mig 29. There has been a problem with elevater servo failing causing the model to crash. Motion RC I believe have rectified this by replacing the elevater servos with stonger servos. They have been out now for a while. So have they rectified this problem or is it better to replace the elevater servos with your own and if so what servo do people recommend to buy to replace the Freewing servo?

It's a translation, not a transliteration (letter-for-letter) - but good correlation in the initials:

Союз (Soyuz, "Union") Советских (Sovetskikh, "Soviet") Социалистических (Sotsialisticheskikh, "Socialist") Республик (Respublik, "Republics")

Compared to Romance languages - in general "Union of Republics" (with "Soviet Socialist" as trailing adjectives)

Hey Tiger, of the 3300+ posts so far I would guess about 2000 have been about this subject - so if you start looking through this thread you'll notice "some opinions" about the elevator issue. The original servos were suspected to not have enough torque, so MRC upgraded them with stronger ones. If you order a new one you'll definitely get the HD servos. Use the inner-most hole on the servo arm and use heavy-duty 4-40 ball links (who knows the new stock might have that too). The new servos seem to be doing ok.

There are about 1 dozen more mods you can do. A few people here posted that they installed even stronger servos - but there is great deal of discussion whether that's really the problem. We really don't know for sure what is causing the problem. Some of us think that the servos might be suffering from voltage loss under load. Its a good idea to use HD extension wires.

              • Unfortunately i can’t say nothing on performance yet , however i did took the suggestions from Just Plane Crazy ( thank you for that) but keep in mind the HT HFP-30 , i have it in the house , so good for me, otherwise need little extra $ but it’s a great investment for the hobby, i think .
i’m pretty sure with the “ new” batch coming out Mr. Alpha took care of the issue, i severe doubts of freewing to ignore this. Full confidence, just get one as soon back in stock again . I saw 2 guy’s flying the mig at the club and their smile was pretty big after landing. Both of them change servo and didn’t have any issues.
Btw, the Callies decals in order are CCCP , so i should be fine, right?

                  • Yesterday did some maintenance on the MiG, added the 3D printed nozzles and did the wing tip mod to get rid of the washout. I used metal chrome, black, and bronze spray paint to paint the nozzle, then used a sponge brush to blend the colors.

can you share what colors you used for the nozzles? I need to fix up my nozzles a bit since it seems off with the front part being Steel and the cans painted in burnt umber/ gunmetal

The spray cans don’t have the color. But it was bronze, chrome, and black. All metallic.

I have 40 flights on mine now and am very happy with how it flies. My modifications are a combination of ideas from others that made sense to me.

I replaced the elevator servos with ProModeler DS150CLHV. They are almost a drop in and not reversible. You either need to plug them directly into the Rx like I did and reverse one at the Tx or purchase one of their in-line servo reversers and plug into Blue Box. The elevator servos were moved out, 8mm from the fuselage outside edge for a better pushrod geometry. Any further out risks the pushrods interfering with the elevators. The pushrods were replaced with titanium 4-40 x 4 1/2" and upgraded connectors. The rear half of the rudder was epoxied in place to stiffen the back of the fuselage were the elevator pivots.

The elevator servo extension wires were replaced with heavier gauge to minimize voltage drop and the external BEC was replaced with Castle Creations 20 amp Pro BEC, using the default 5.1 volt output with one plug going to the Blue Box and the second plug into the Rx. Everything is running at 5.1 volts.

I'm flying with 3mm of reflex on the ailerons and flaps and have cut and glued the wing tips to match that reflex.

I'm using the RC Geek afterburner's kit and really like how it looks even in bight sunlight. They are programed to turn on at half throttle and add some aft weight to help with desired CG. My Rx and Cortex gyro are located on the right side pocket by the rear battery. The BEC and afterburner battery (Dinogy 300mah LiPo, 9gr.) are located on the back left side.

With my SMC 5600-60c batteries (800gr each), the rear one all the way back and front as pictured, along with modifications, my CG is 15mm aft of factory mark. Front of elevator is slightly above the bottom of the fuselage for neutral flight. Inverted requires slight push, Knife edge is very good and landings are easy. I take off with halve flaps and land with full flaps. I fly with the control surfaces at the recommended high rates except for the ailerons have 25mm of throw instead of 43mm. Flight time is around 5:00 with mixed throttle and 25-30% battery remaining.

                            Hope this info helps.

                            • Good summary RC Rich. Important to note, Tigerman, that while not 100% determined to be the only cause of lawn darting....DO NOT fly fast with the flaps down. This places loads on the full flying stabs that exceed what the stock servos can handle. Many forum posters pretty much agree that this is more of a problem than any servo design problem. Many are flying with the MRC servos w/o issue. Also, many have elected to upgrade servos for more torque and more safety margin.

I elected to upgrade with a drop-in but no reverse servo option was available. So, I have been flying with the Futaba SR-10 servo reverser. No issues so far, and very temperature/position stable.

I went with the MKS HV-69 because they have a lower operating voltage spec to have more margin if the voltage droops at the rear servos.

Also, search on “ferrite” or “choke” or “RF choke” and read those posts. Cheap, easy way to add more safety margin. They can’t hurt, and may save your plane.

                              • If interested, I designed a simple 3D printed main wheel cover for the Freewing MiG-29 that is available for download on Thingiverse.

If someone has spare time and a printer, please let me know if there are any clearance issues when the covers are installed on the aircrafts main wheels when the gear is retracted. I had the Freewing wheel in my possession to design the covers and ensure fitment, but I don’t have the aircraft.

After printing, make sure to clear out the ring/hole on the underside of the covers on the portion where it will sit above the ridge of the stock wheel. This will ensure it can lay flat/flush onto the Freewing wheel.

                                      There's a global pandemic.

Shipping is screwed up, seaports are choked on account of workers off sick, international air freight is hopelessly messed up, customs clearance is massively delayed, local delivery is all messed up.

440,000 dead just in the USA, and counting.

I think I can wait for my toys without getting bent out of shape..

                                      • You don't think I know that, dont have to be an a@s. Walmart is being well stocked which most ifs from China, so I was wondering if this was just demand in the RC industry as usual. My sister-n-law died at 66 from covid so you don't have to school me on covid. Happy a healthy day.

                                        • So to answer your question, no this is not normal. Spare parts are solely dependent on shipping containers from China, which have been delayed due to the pandemic.
