  • CYModel 84" Lavochkin La-7 ARF - Build Series

Here's the first episode where I'll unbox the La-7 and show all of the pieces parts. If you ever wanted to know how a CYModel is currently packaged, check it out.

I am not trying to sell these...I'm merely documenting what I can about this model. I'm trying to show everything that I'd like to know if possible before buying the model.

Let's get these JP Hobbies retracts set up and installed.

"The landing gears were of the conventional tail wheel type, with fully retracting main landing gears and a fully retractable tail wheel. The main landing gears retracted inwards, while the tail wheel retracted backwards. Both the main landing gears and tail wheel were fully covered by doors, the main landing gears also having small doors hinged to the wings that completely covered the wheels."

This part 1 of episode 3 will prepare the horns and servo pockets for the ailerons and flaps. I'll explain how to prepare the surfaces and hardware as well as getting out the epoxy for the first time in the build.

Part 2 of episode three: We will attach both the ailerons and flaps as well as final mounting of the servos and connecting the turnbuckles.

        Thanks so much for watching!

"Like the La-5, the outer leading edge of the wings were equipped with metal leading edge slats, which again necessitated that the pitot tube be mounted to the lower surface of the starboard wing. It appears that, like most of the La-5's, the La-7 was equipped with fixed trim tabs on both ailerons, and that these trim tabs were bendable on the ground."

Episode 4 will attach both the horizontal stabs, elevators, and rudders. We will also install the respective servos, pushrods, pull-pull wires, and tail wheel.

          Thanks so much for watching!

"...the fixed portions of the La-7's tail surfaces were of wooden construction. The moveable portions, such as the rudder and the elevators, were of aluminum alloy structure (dural), covered with fabric. The rudder and the port elevator had trim tabs, while the starboard elevator did not."

Episode 5 in the series! I'll show you how I attached everything at the front of the plane. I'll also cut the canopy and attach it to the hatch. Ever wonder how to calculate the built-in thrust angle? I'll show you how as well!

            Thanks so much for watching!

"The La-7 utilized the same engine as the La-5FN, the M-82FN (ASh-82FN). Externally, the cowling was cleaned up aerodynamically, with the intake for the supercharger moved from the top of the cowling to the wing roots, the the oil cooler moved from under the cowling to under the fuselage. The propeller used was the VISh-105V-4, which was similar to the VISh-105V utilized on the La-5s, except that it did not have the Hucks starter dog on the front of the spinner."
