This is an Engel kit of the German Type IX U-boat that I took on as a commission build for a gentleman. He had purchased the kit some time ago but just never got around to building it so he asked me if I would do it for him. Engel kits are very nice boats but there is a lot of detail in them and their control system is quite complex but I considered it a challenge and opportunity to learn something new. I have spent most of the last three months building it to be able to take it to this year's Subfest in Cohutta, GA this September 24-26 so next weekend. The owner of the boat will meet me there to take possession of it. During the build he supported it with many resin printed detail parts and we converted it to brushless motors. Engel boats are designed in the typical European style in that they are what is called "dry hull" as opposed to a "wet hull" which makes them tend to be heavier. Tomorrow I plan to take it to the local lake for further sea trials. The decking and sail (which had to be completely built up) were from a third party supplier and really helped to set it off. It is 1/45th scale making it 77" long and weighs around 37lbs.
