Transport cases

Those look nice, but they're nigh impossible to find here in Europe. The price though I think is very reasonable. My custom case was actually more expensive all totaled up.

I've run across a couple transport cases that are purpose built for 1/16 scale tanks, a little pricey though.

No worries mate, glad you posted those pictures! It looks very ingenious. In wonder if I can do something similar with my case.

Sorry it took so long to follow up. (life and such)
After measuring for the height of the shelf, I pop riveted some two inch brackets to the inside.
Made the shelf to fit the Tiger 1
Cushions for the Tiger 1
A bit of spacer padding to keep the King Tiger in place.
Padding for the Tiger 1 and it's controller.
Cavity at the end of the chest holds batteries, charger and FPV goggles.
Clamp down the lid and we're ready to travel!

When I get a moment, I'll try to make some footage of how I mounted brackets in the case and made the shelf as well as the packing. I can pack both tanks along with all the accessories and even invert the case without damage to any of the contents.
(at least thus far)😆
I'll try to get that done by this weekend.

The surface of the box is deceptively textured and porous so it took a number of passes to get the "black" to disappear. I was afraid my lack of skills would leave my paintwork dull and being a porous surface would be next to impossible to start again. (If'n it ain't broke, don't be a fix'n it)😏
HOLY SMOKES!
I just looked up the box I have for the first time!😲
Looks like it's worth about three to five hundred dollars! (well...before I "had my way" with it)😆
If I had to make ANY recommendations, it would be "Frogtape".

The green tape on my project was frogtape.(no bleeding)😃
The blue tape on my box was regular masking tape. (occasional bleeding)😒
Next time will be Frogtape all the way.😏
I'm sorry I didn't document the entire modification as I should have. Once I start picking up tools, I get into a "groove" and forget to take pictures.

Pynaegan That looks real slick, and a great find! I like the idea of adding layers for multiple tanks. Think I'll do that as well with my xase once I get a second tank. :)

A couple of months ago I found this box at Goodwill (thrift store) for $25!
I guess it's an equipment carry case for musical equipment or some such. Way too good of a deal to leave behind.
I immediately set to work on modifications and decorating.😉
I first built in a removable shelf so the case can accommodate two tanks.
Then I went about the tedious task of stencil making and masking.😒
Once I was happy with the masking job, out to the great outdoors for paint!
So this is my first carry case project and I have a few more planed. It was actually quite a bit of fun!😃
This is the end results.

Prowler901 I like making stuff, so this was a fun little project. I probably won't be transporting the tank a lot as I don't own a car (hey it's the Netherlands, we take trains or bike everywhere ). But at the least it's nice to have a sturdy dustfree case to put it in for storage.

HDMM I actually looked at the Stanley Fatmax before opting for an aluminium case. But for my King Tiger I think it would've been a bit too small.

Transport cases
Surprised that there isn't a topic about this. So what do you guys use to transport your tanks?
When I was looking for a good tank transport case I couldn't really find anything suitable ready made. At least not in the Netherlands or in Europe. So I resorted to this:
I bought a big aluminium trunk of the brand "Defender" and clad the sides and bottom with 5mm thick EVA foam. After that I used sheets of 3cm EPE foam to make a tray for the tank and a smaller tray for the remote control and two battery packs.
The trays are removable, so can be swapped if I would ever feel the need.
Now all that remains is to take it into the wild. :)
