  • EPO Foam Refinishing Techniques

Hello all! Just wondering what everyone's thoughts and opinion were regarding refinishing EPO Foam Airplanes. Specifically glassing a foam plane vs repainting like The RC Geek's technique.

I've been flying RC airplanes a long time, but I took a long hiatus from the hobby. Back when I was really into RC Airplanes, everything was made balsa, powered by nitro and covered with Monokote. Fast forward 20+ some years later and now there are foam EDF jets which I thought was pretty neat. I've always wanted a jet and these Foamy EDF were pretty affordable, look good and fly well. My only issue with them was how they get dinged up so easily. I think I put like 3 dents in my plane before I even maidened it. And with some regular use, it's gotten more dings and the decals started flying off.

Anyway, after getting all this hangar rash on my plane, I've decided to try to refinish it. I've been doing some research and decided I'm either going to glass it and repaint it, or follow a technique like The RC Geek's technique he posted on YouTube.

My question to all of you is what is your preferred method of refinishing EPO planes? I'm looking to try to refinish my plane so its a little more resistant to denting just from regular handling. Does the RC Geek method, with that coat of poly make the surface a little harder? Is glassing EPO foam still a valid technique or is it obsolete? I noticed there are no new videos on glassing foam and most videos glassing foamies are usually 5-6 years old.

Looking forward to hearing from you all. Thanks all for your help and answering my questions!
