Hey Guys-I bought a nice, NIB kit of the F7F Tigercat this weekend from a friend in our club. This plane has a 52" span, fiberglass fuselage and nacells with gel coat fuselage, and built up balsa wings. It is an older kit designed for NiCd batteries and is set up for 3 channel operation. The rudder can be added if desired to make it 4 channel. I understand the Hobby Lobby used to carry it. All up weight according the literature shows about 79 ounces, but again, that would be with an 8 cell NiCd. I want to use 3S LiPo power in the 2200mAH range in this one.
Anyway, I was thinking about what motors/ESCs to use with it. It came with two AXI motors that according to the literature, are like a 25 size nitro motor. That seems like a lot to me and wanted to see what you guys think. Possibly something along the lines of two E-flite 480s? Or possibly get an entire powertrain assembly from something like a FreeWing Mosquito and plug that in.
It is designed to be handlaunched and belly landed. With today's lighter electric retracts, it would probably be pretty easy to add that too if I decide to go that way.
It will be several months before I get started on this one, but I did find some videos on line and it looks to be a nice flying plane. I've always loved the Tigercat, and this was too good of a deal to pass up. Once I get it going, I will start posting some pictures!
