  • Batt and charger Easy Trainer 1280 upgrade

I'd like to get more flight time. Please recommend a 3 cell Batt and charger for FMS Easy Trainer 1280.

RE: Batt and charger Easy Trainer 1280 upgrade

Assuming your existing charger is fully balance-charging your battery, a different charger won't increase your flight time; it could, however, charge at a higher rate, reducing down time. I have multiple batteries for that. If you want a charger that can charge at a higher rate, just look for one with the power needed. For example, if you want to charge a 2000mAh 3S battery at 2C (the 1/2 hour rate), you'd need a charger that is rated for just over 50Watts (4A * 12.6V).

A larger capacity battery is a separate issue. First, you have to measure the space it fits into, then determine if there is a battery that will fit, but has the same voltage with higher capacity. Then there is the weight issue: higher capacity batteries weigh more, sometimes a LOT more. Increasing the capacity by double will not double your flight times, because it takes more power just to fly the extra weight. The extra weight can not only make the airplane harder to fly, it can also make it harder to balance, which, in turn, makes it harder to fly. Landings are also harder in an over-weight airplane, and the landing gear takes a beating.

Do some research; you'll learn something, and be better equipped for the next model you get.
