  • EDF fan cutting off

    Hi all....

So I have a Freewing 64mm F-86 and I'm using a Tactic TTX-650 6 channel radio and a Tactic Tx-624 receiver. I maidened it yesterday and it flew fine with one issue...every once and a while the fan cuts out. It only happens for a second and then it starts again. You can hear it in the video http:/https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2hB1NAdVJc 44-46 seconds in. This is the second F-86 I've had and it happened with the other one too so I know its not the fan itself. Any thoughts on what might cause this?

Have you checked the timing setting on the ESC?

      Hi WintrSol,

I hadn't done that, everything is stock.I have no idea what that would entail.

Sound not playing right for me...

But there are 3 typical causes of the intermittant.

#1: LVC... requires reduce throttle and then advance it again to get it to work again.

#2: ESC overheat, that would not be brief... it would take a few seconds before you could get power again and usually, you need to cycle the throttle stick too.

#3: Arcing between the phases of the motor, usually at the bullets between the motor and ESC .

Try putting heat shrink to cover the bullet connections (separate shrink each wire) between motor and ESC.

Is your receiver positioned correctly with both antennas pointing 90° of each other? Do you loose control of the plane when this happens? Is this the only receiver you have tried in the plane? Are the motor connectors secure and connected fully?

There are a lot of causes for that problem which is why I am requesting you respond to the above questions so I can help further assist you and limit the number of causes.

          Thanks

Thanks for the responses.... the receiver has only one antenna and I this is the only receiver I've used in this plane. Like I said earlier though this is the second one of these planes that I've had. I'm sure I used the same type of receiver in the other plane and the same type of situation occurred sporadically. The condition only effects the throttle, control of the aircraft is not lost.

This only happens sporadically and also seems to happen when the aircraft is in the same spot in the sky when it does happen. By that, I mean that as I circle around the field (no matter where I am) if it happens, the engine will stop/start and as I continue around the circle, when I get back to the same part of the circle that's when it might happen again.

There is a chance its "shadowing" of the RX...

The test for that is to relocate the RX
That can be just turning it 90 deg so the antenna is pointed a different direction.

Note that if it is shadowing..
this might eliminate the issue completely.
it might just make it happen at a different orientation of the model...
or it could make it worse.
It won't be the same, but it may be a MUCH bigger problem.

If it is not shadowing, then there will be no change.

Do you loose complete control of the plane and have you performed proper esc throttle calibration?
