  • ESC brakes.

Was watching a video where he set up brakes for the motor. Can this be done on all esc's. I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Was wondering because might use this for my glider. It works like a throttle cut.

I believe all ESCs can activate the brake feature. The procedure can vary by brand. Some Eflite ESC's are weird and have their own brake set/unset regimen. For most other brands, see their operator's manual. However, the brake feature is usually set after the first set of programming beeps (which is brake set/unset). Brakes are generally used for gliders/sailplanes so folding props don't windmill. It doesn't quite work like throttle cut. Throttle cut is just immediately putting the throttle to just below zero. "Brakes" actually utilize the motors magnets to stop the motor quickly and keep it stopped. If you just use throttle cut, the prop (even a folding one) can still windmill. A windmilling prop can cause unwanted drag, which will hinder performance for a glider.

Brake is not the same as throttle cut.

It has nothing to do with being a safety to prevent accidental motor run.
