  • Question on Spektrum Sky ID module possibly causing radio interference with aircraft??

Hi All: For you electronics wizards out there, I have a question. I have a Spektrum Sky ID module that I have been flying in my airplanes for about a year, now. I just have the one module, and put it in a open slot in a receiver before I fly my airplanes. It seemed to work as it is supposed to, it would blink for a minute or two before it got a signal and the light went steady. I should point out that a couple of months ago, I crashed one of my airplanes pretty hard and a crack in the housing appeared on the plastic module case. I tested it and it seemed to operate normally as far as I could tell, until recently. I sealed the crack with CA.

I put it in my FMS P-47D razorback that I have had for several years. I took off after checking everything, and noticed that it was flying erratically. I got it back on the ground ok, but it was a handful to do so! On the ground, the left aileron twitched spasmodically, something that I hadn't experienced before. I took the wings off and reset them into the plugs in the fuselage. It seemed to fly ok for a couple flights after that.

The other day, I took up my Fllightline B-25 and plugged the ID module into a Y-cable that also is plugged into the bomb gear door switch. Before taking it off the table to go out and fly, I noticed the same thing: the bomb bay doors twitched spasmodically, just like the P-47 did before. When I pulled out the ID module, the twitching stopped. I replugged it into the cable and it started up again. So, I deduced we have a problem caused by the damaged module somehow.

Sorry for the long preamble, but I'm wondering if a damaged ID module that otherwise seemed to work normally could cause some sort of interference with the receiver and flight control problems?

I have "grounded" the module and ordered a new one to replace it. I won't fly with this one again. Below is some info I took from Amaozn for more info on the module. I just ordered one today.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Davegee
