  • Poll: Freewing 3D Printed Detail Upgrade Sets

Based on positive initial feedback from our FlightLine RC 2000mm B-24 Liberator's upcoming 3D Printed Detail Upgrade Sets, we have decided to expand the lineup to include detail sets for other Freewing and FlightLine RC aircraft.

For Freewing's line of EDF jets, the first series of 3D Printed Detail Upgrade Sets ("3DPUP") will be Cockpits. These scale detail Sets will include a Seat set, an Instrument Panel set, and a Pilot Set. Files will be made available for download if users want to use their own 3D printer or printing service, and OEM printed Sets will also be sold on MotionRC.com for those who do not have access to a 3D printer. Assembly, painting, and installation will be required of the modeler.

So the question is, which Freewing models would you like us to release first? If your preference isn't on this list, post your choice in the comments. Please note, this poll is for Freewing EDF aircraft only, in any size. See the FlightLine RC poll to vote for those aircraft's 3DPUP Sets.

The A-10 would be my preference, followed by the 90mm F-16 and the F-14. Looking forward to this, definitely and awesome idea for adding detail!

The F-86 would be awesome for sure! Maybe a set of airbrakes as well for and upgrade?

We'll look at external scale 3DPUPs down the road. For now we can to stay with cockpits, because they're simpler, immediately add detail to a visibly undetailed part of current models, and also require the least modification and cost.

But, in future, I foresee a diverse community of shared 3DP files for all our aircraft. Cockpits, doors, clip on parts to scale out the struts, turkey feathers, etc. OEM designed by our in-house team and also third party designed. Open source style. I'll gladly provide the .PRT files for certain areas of aircraft, upon which 3DP designers can create parts that are then guaranteed to fit well onto the foam.

But, first things first. This B-24 project needs to be a success, and we need to see interest in this sort of thing for our other aircraft. Resources are finite. So, spread the word, point people to this thread to vote, voice their support, or voice their disinterest. Either way, data is data.

Don't forget about the A-6 Alpha. You'll definitely need a good cockpit detail for the Twin 80mm version your gonna have FW do ;)

What's the best way to request some of these files to work from? I'm currently in the process of making external A-10A parts, and these would greatly cut down on trial-error with fitting.

Here is the first parts I've made that fit fairly well. Functioning vents.

                              Hi Dirty Dee,
See me your email address in PM, and the specific areas of which model you want. It may take a week or so based on our holiday rush schedule, but I'll get them to you.

You're one of the inspirations for the 3DPUP line, Pogo. Realizing that not many of us can match your scratchbuilding skill, I set out to make something for the masses to try and at least get a little closer. :D

In truth, I would suggest that you develop the upgrade kits for all of the 70 mm and larger aircraft models.
The 64 mm park fliers are, IMHO, too small to fully benefit from the added detailing as they are intended to be the fun-flyers of our fleets.
I will also add a +1 to the idea of expanding the kits to include exterior features as mentioned by Alpha

Thanks so much Alpha! You and your team, here and in China, are providing us with simply amazing models, and so it's easy to find the motivation to add extra detail. For example, the A-10 canopy looks just right (to scale, in other words) fits right and is crystal clear. Perfect to then make operational!:Cool:Steve (RCjetdude) of course led the way on this and I'm sure feels the same way.
Your soon to be announced big F-4 will be challenging with it's two cockpits, but that's what winters are for! (It's soon, right? :))
Anyway, as I said before, these printed detail sets are SUCH a good idea! If I can be of help with any future projects...

I voted for the A-10 to be done first, but would purchase cockpit kits for all of my 70mm and up jets. As well as exterior details like gear doors for those models that don't have them (like the A-4!).

Definitely the A-10 as It can easily take the extra weight and suits the additional detailing. I'd also like the F86 cockpit too.
