  • PC-9 Retracts

    I have a lovely Unique Models PC-9
she flies well and is a popular plane in my collection however just lately the retracts have become unreliable
thankfully i can land her deadstick so to date no damage has occured but its not a great situation
the retracts fitted as standard have just two wires from the controller to the legs so i cant try another controller
to see if it is that (but it must be as all three legs stick up or down!!)

does anyone know if the two wire legs can be made to work with the more conventional three wire set up??
i am reluctant to swap the whole set up as it fits so neatly into the wings etc

I've had a couple of planes that use this type of retract. My current YF-23 is of that type. Banana sells it under the BlitzRCWorks brand. You can see that a new retract controller costs only $9.00.
Buy RC airplanes online at Banana Hobby. Discover the latest electric RC planes, EDF jets, turbine jets, gas aircraft, warbirds, gliders, LiPo batteries & spare parts.

You could try a new controller and see if that fixes it. I don't think a conventional "3-wire" servo-less retract will work with these controllers but you could try one by just pulling the signal wire. It only needs the power and ground from the controller. If I had the chance to do it over again, I'd replace those retracts with standard ones and eliminate the controller. It's just a matter of finding retracts with the same mounting holes as the stock ones. It may even be possible to adapt the stock strut and tire to fit into a standard retract.

A three wire etract WILL NOT work in conjunction with a separate controller just by pulling the signal wire.
You would have to go inside the etract and physically cut the motor leads from the internal controller card and then put a connector on those motor leads to connect to the external two wire motor controllers.
