  • Major Retract issue

OK I got a new Freewing Focke Wulf and the retract had a stripped grub screw in it . The strut was loose is how I found out because couldn't do a thing with .
No problem sent email and picture and Wayne sent me another part #E810 , which is listed in the spare parts for this plane . I drilled out the old screw so I could get the strut out and before I mounted the retract I hooked it up . Works great but IT RUNS OPPOSITE OF THE OTHER !!!!
And yes I triple checked that the wiring is correct , tried flipping switch and plugging in the tract after to see if it would sync up . It runs in sync but it runs opposite of the other .
Cant get enough of the old grub out  to use the other retract . If I drill a bit larger it will chew into the threads and still be useless to where the screw wouldn't work . Any ideas ??????????

    RE: Major Retract issue

    Greetings H64,

It's a bit difficult to envision your situation.

If you're using a programmable TX, I would start by deleting the plane and starting over.
Perhaps that might pull everything back in tow.

Then of course there is the possibility that the part you received was mis-labled and is not for the 190.

These are guesses of course but, all troubleshooting has to begin somewhere.

Yea I understand what you're getting at but the retracts are on a Y harness . Flip the switch one goes up n the other goes down .

Frustrating Brian, the only thing I can think of is to reverse wire the new retract, maybe its sildered up wrong?

Well now there's more to it . After looking this retract will not work if it did move correctly . The stock retract has a different setup in it because the strut for the gear is angled . If you try and put the rod into the retract it hits the base and cannot go in . The part # listed is what's shown on the spare parts tab but it is wrong .

I emailed Friday but it was after hours so I will see tomorrow .

            RE: Major Retract issue

Sounds like what happened to me with the P51D flap servo. They sent me one that had the right item number but it was wrong! Ended up that they had a change of wervos a FMS and so he stock item number was changed to the new servo.  Something like that, after a couple of tries, they got it straightened out.  Give them lots of details, including pics and all.
Did they ever solve you Grand Cruiser trouble, it seems to me that you said you finally had to go elsewhere.  Hope you got reembursed for that.

                Greetings H64,

                Sweet!

Hopefully, it's a jacked up part number and they get what you need out you quickly.

Sounds like you'll be in the air in no time.

                Best of luck!

If all else fails, I have a complete set I am willing to let you have.  This is a great flying plane.  I installed a MrRC sound card and it sounds just great.  Good luck.

That is a really great offer , such a nice person to consider that for me . THANK YOU !!!! . Ended up changing both retracts . What it is there has been a update to what the first set up was . New retracts and mounting plates . Bad part is the strut doesn't fit !! Had to do a lot of bending and test fitting to finally get them right . The new retract is much tighter and works great just be ready to work on the struts for fitting .

                          RE: Major Retract issue

I have the same issue, but with my FMS 1700mm P-51. My tail retract is opposite of the mains. I ordered a new tail retract, but it is still opposite.

Will try reversing the wires in the retract. I tried changing out the sequencer, the y-harness, and the one-piece plugs. Nothing worked. Alpha at Motion said to rebind, but I had already tried that twice.

Last resort will be to reverse the wires. Still have the spare retract if I mess it up somehow.

Good luck with yours, and let us know how it turns out.

                            RE: Major Retract issue

What happened with mine was since Freewing manufactured mine the retracts had been changed. There are planes in boxes that are not revised so I was sent two new  retracts . They both run the same . I did have to do a lot of bending and test fitting on the struts  til it was right but no problems now .
Mine is the 1120mm version not sure about the bigger one .

Hippie 64, that is awesome! Nothing like excellent customer service. I ordered a new set of retracts for my P-51, thinking that it would possibly match the new tail retract. However, that didn't work either. So, for now, I just leave the tail retract down. Bummer! I'll post what happens when I try to reverse the wiring on the tail retract. Thanks for the original post.

Stitch, thanks for going back to the basics. Even though I had to use a servo reverser once before too, I didn't think of that. I'm not wildly fond of those things because they can fail, it's not devastating if it ever fails on a tail wheel.

Thanks. Now I just have to find one. They're hard to find these days.

                                      Hello Sky Wolf,
Servo reversers are readily avail but unfortunately not from MRC.
I just bought a couple from HK last week to use on a landing light setup, here's the link.
