Gentlemen! This one is very serious. Regardless if you are an AMA member this bill in it's current form will have a devastating impact on our recreational use of unmanned aircraft! This bill is calling for the complete repeal of Section 336! This isn't the half of it. If you don't understand the implications of this bill then it's time to get your head out of the sand and educate yourself. This bill can and will most likely doom recreational model aircraft flying to very restrictive parameters that not only a lot of people will not want to abide but will also put significant requirements with economic impact on not only MotionRC but every major hobby company. With the repeal of Section 336 the FAA will make and change rules at it's discretion in regards "Recreational Un-Manned Aircraft".

Here's a link to email and call your representatives. It has a form letter email as well as a script for a quick phone call you give to your representatives staff.

Don't blow this one off. Contact your representatives!

If this passes, non-compiance will come with a very stiff fine, not to mention reflecting poorly on all of us in this hobby. The vote happens THIS WEDNESDAY. The best course is to stop it before it becomes LAW. I know that many do not support the AMA, but once again, they are the ONLY voice representing our hobby in Washington.

Don't stick your head in the sand folks. I've read the bill. While some parts are good, many parts will crush us and force us into a small box. It will also add requirements to our aircraft that require companies like Motion RC to make changes to our aircraft. Those changes will add cost to making the product. Those will add to what we have to pay for receivers in particular. Not to mention the proposed requirement to take an FAA test in order to get your license to fly RC.

The worst part is that it's hidden inside a bill for the regulation of sports medicine! Sent mine when I got the notifies from the AMA.

I wholly agree with Mr. Adams conclusions about Congress:

The bill passed the House vote, now it's off to the Senate.

Well let's face it, with midterms coming up who wants to have thrown in their face that they "sacrificed the safety of the American public for a handful of Tom Cruise wannabees". And let's not forget the "pork" of money for the local full scale facilities. I'd recommend a "million plane flyover", but that'd be playing into the opposition's hands since the DC area is a permanent no-fly zone. Except for the morons who helped get us in this stew to begin with,

Yup, as the saying goes, those who sacrifice freedom for security deserve neither.

Well, decided to go to the head honcho on this with a e-mail:

                                  Mr. President,
As a retired member of the armed forces who voluntarily served from the Fall of the Soviet Union until the Second Gulf War I would request that you intervene on my behalf and that of numerous other veterans that engage in the hobby of model aircraft construction and flight. Please contact the Academy of Model Aeronautics concerning the relevant sections of the FAA Authorization Act of 2018.
Certain regulations within that bill will destroy this activity
enjoyed by many veterans, such as myself, and reduce the country's ability to compete in the world's STEM areas.
Thank you for your patience and time.

EXACT SAME SCENARIO! Just as there's a few "reckless" gun owners who screw up things for the responsible ones, there's someone with a DJI Phantom flying it at the wrong place.
