To clarify i wasn't meaning congressmen, Im just sick of these idiots doing stupid crap with drones because they think they are cool for doing risky crap that wrecks our hobby. When i do fpv it is in sight of a buddy spoting for me, and definitely at proper altitudes and well away from full sized aircraft and airports. They just seem to want to create a communist state and as such should be charged with the crime of treason and punished to the full extent of the law

I wonder how many people actually know about this? And how much of a dent is the uncertainty putting in the sales of companies like MRC? There's a couple of planes I was contemplating, but suspending until this is sorted out. And what do we do with all these aircraft in the worst case scenario?

The re-authorization bill says we will need to get tested and certified.
I suggest flooding FAA certification center with calls asking how to get certified.
Ideally EVERY RC modeler should call... every day until we get an answer.
Make the FAA ask congress to change it.

Don't forget to look up and call your local area FAA office too.
"Hello, my name is ________ And the FAA re-authorization bill says I will need testing and certification for flying RC models. I would like to know how to get that testing and certification."
And then just mess with their minds asking why they want us to get certified if they have no method to do it.
FF gliders and rubber power since 1966, CL 1970-1990, RC since 1975.

Based on some of the comments I've seen on other social media sites, many are either mis or uninformed. Some have taken the "whatever.." stance.Originally posted by Valkpilot View PostI wonder how many people actually know about this? As far as how/when it will affect us as hobbyists and companies like Motion RC is somewhat fluid in the proposed legislation. How, things are implimented seems up to the FAA Director. When, in most cases, seems to be to have a plan in place within 180 days. Licensing and the 400 ft limit will come swiftly I suspect. Other areas like electronic fencing and remote ID will likely be phased in and affect future aircraft to be produced as the factory designs are FAA approved and those cannot be modified as far as electronics are concerned.
After part 336 has been repealed (page 290, item 10) we will be completely under FAA control. Congress has already passed the bill. If we can't get it stopped at the Senate level, it's pretty much a done deal.
If it does pass, there's no reason to quit flying and no reason to stop getting the aircraft you want to fly. The next generation of receivers may be different and you may have to take a test to show that you know "the rules of the road" so to speak when flying in the National Airspace, etc, etc.
Maybe someone on the Motion RC Leadership Team can chime in and address how the proposed changes might affect the business/product outlook.

We might not want to antagonize the FAA. Much of the proposed legislation is being shoved down their throat too. There are several groups that have had a hand in drafting this mess. Some are the TSA, Airline Pilots Assoc, The Drone Alliance(mostly driven by commercial interests), and many others.Originally posted by fhhuber View PostThe re-authorization bill says we will need to get tested and certified.

Don't rush the testing portion of it. The way the bill is written, AMA is suposed to act in an advisory capacity in it's developement. It might be better to let a representative of our hobby be involved instead of the FAA rushing it through to get us off their back. Just sayin';)

I understand.... My "toy" airplanes combined cost more than most of these "lawmakers" luxury cars.... Not bragging, just a fact... So kiss my happy little butt!!!!!!!!!! Just to clarify, that kiss my butt was for the government, no you or my R/C bros!!! LOLOriginally posted by Twowingtj View Post
Couldn't agree more. Those of us that fly "toy airplanes" are a small number compared to the larger commercial interests.

If MRC, Horizon, Tower, ET AL contacted the White House perhaps something might happen. I heard on the radio about a US television manufacturer who got several key components of the TVs he makes taken off of the Tariff list. So perhaps if they wrote about the bill AND about getting a tariff exclusion. we could get two birds with one stone.Originally posted by Twowingtj View Post

This is a complex and evolving situation, friends, with lots going on in the background. Our fundamental mindset amid any legislative uncertainty is that, come what may, nothing can ever dissuade us from flying RC.
I would encourage everyone to do your best at every level, be it personal and civil, to promote the responsible exercise of our hobby. Every voice matters.Live Q&A every Tuesday and Friday at 9pm EST on my Twitch Livestream

What pisses me off is i dont take test well at all after the brain scrambler hit my truck... its very unfair for the veterans who been though hell to come home and have to be given the great knob of china up the ass. Im just tired of having to pay for others mistakes. Punish the criminals not the public. I mean hell, if we ama pilots were the problem this hobby would have been desolved years ago before it even started. I wish people would give their own brains a chance. ALL of us pilots having to deal with this is ridiculous.

With all due respect to everyone's opinion this is my take on it for what its worth.
1. Amazon and other big money wants the hobby fliers out of the way. The truth is there is to many back yard fliers with push button multi rotor stuff taking paid jobs unlawfully so the money boys who have a stake or a future stake in using drones commercially paid big money to get us shoved out of the way.
2. The AMA is culpable in this. The AMA decided to defend the "hobby" instead of its members. Sorry If I offend but the truth is I pay AMA dues, work my ass off at my flying field and pay my club dues to have a place for me to fly. I do not do this so parking lot flyers, back yard droners, illegal commercial droners, arse holes who fly over baseball fields or in the way of fire tankers can be considered part of the "hobby" that AMA is protecting. AMA never ever and to this day still does not have a goal. They have done nothing but sit on their backside and pay legal teams and lobbyists to do nothing but defend the "hobby" instead of its members. All they would have had to do is go to Congress and say do what you will with people flying outside of approved AMA flying fields ,but, allow the original exception at the flying fields. Instead the AMA decided to be the voice of the "hobby". The park flyer program needs to go now. The AMA has a last minute chance to get an amendment on the Senate bill, its a snow balls chance in that one place, but maybe they can get an amendment to the bill after it is passed, later down the line.
Its time the AMA stops representing the hobby and represents the members that pay the bills.

1.) Well Amazon is in for a big surprise. It wouldn't be a far leap to see big cities, like Seattle, San Francisco, LA, Chicago, and NYC coming up with laws prohibiting drones. And the DC Metro area is all ready a no-fly zone. And let's not forget idiots with shotgunsOriginally posted by benjack71 View PostWith all due respect to everyone's opinion this is my take on it for what its worth.

2.) Not all of us have access to fields all-year-round. Yes I pay the AMA and belong to the local club, but our field is in literally the back side of the local county park(used to be the and part of it still is the park's dump), and the county closes off the road that access the road to the airfield for the winter, from about the first of November until April or May. So why shouldn't I be able to get some rotary wing time IN MY OWN YARD on nice days when it's not too windy and not too cold?
And all the rules in the world won't stop fools and idiots, just look at the gun issue. About the only thing they could do would be to require proof of licensing at point-of-purchase.

As i am an AMA member, i guess since i pay my fees and crap im not intitled to a voice or to be protected? Oh HELL NO! That **** can go strait to hell. I do not have or need to drive 170 miles to an AMA field when i have more land to fly on than any AMA field in the United States, and i guarantee you what i have paid for and done for this place every year far out weighs any amount you could ever hope to come up with. So yeah, any one who pays taxes in this country has a freaking voice a few of us have paid dearly including this man Valkpilot. Just because you fly at a damn "AMA approved" field doesnt make you right. No mater how right you think you are.
