  • Anyone fly EPP foam planes?

I was wondering if anyone else out there also flew any planes made with EPP foam, the bendable kind? I have 3 planes made by Hacker and they are really fun to fly. I think I went that route a while ago because I wanted to improve my flying skills without having that sinking feeling about crashing the plane and having tiny pieces of foam all over the field. You can't believe what you try if that anxiety is lessened.
I have the full profile versions that Hacker offers and they are a blast. I put pilots in them and even beefed up the landing gear with a set made for a Switch. I'll post a few photos if anyone is even remotely interested.

RE: Anyone fly EPP foam planes?

    Hello retiredflyer,
My conversion to foam from balsa was with an EPP 3D P40 by TechOne. I beat the crap out of that plane and 2 years later with a refreshed paint job it is still my go-to warm up plane on 15+ mph wind days. Only has a 40" span but I even go thermal hunting with it when I get tired with the 3D stuff or there are no turkey vultures to chase after. Of my 12 bird fleet, 9 of them are foamies(all EPO except the TechOne). Foam is so much more forgiving than balsa in a pile up. That's my short story on intro to foamies.

I have a parkzone corsair ( epo? I think ). I bought it used for 30 dollars years ago. Totaled it three times. One straight into the ground. You can 5 min epoxy these things forever. Now one wing is an inch higher than the other. Lets jus say only i can fly it. When landing i have to compensate with some aileron and rudder on a calm day.
Two things a pilot can waste, the sky above him and the runway behind him.

I've flown a variety of EPP planes. The Techone wings and 3D profile planes are durable and fly well if setup properly. EPP is a bit on the heavy side, and I don't really care for the mottled finish, but EPP does have its own set of advantages also.

I know a few guys that build them out of the foamboard from home depot. Seen some pretty cools one. I personally like the EPO foams.
