  • What is your favorite plane to fly?

    Hello All,

I've seen a lot of threads on this forum from maiden flights, to the "old tried and true", and thought it would be interesting to find out what everyone's favorite plane might be, along with why. Does it just fly right, look great in the air, what about that plane makes it your favorite, the one you always want to take to the field?

For me, I think my favorite plane is my FMS 1400mm Cub. Something about a yellow Cub up in the air just appeals to me. It is easy to see, and it has the ability to be a relaxing slow flyer if I want it to, or can do some pretty crazy aerobatics if I want that. Nothing fancy, but just a plane I love to take to the field and fly.

My second favorite really varies with my mood. Sometimes I just want to get a warbird in the air and tear up the skies. For that, I love my old Parkzone F4F Wildcat. Very basic plane, no flaps, no navigation lights, heck, it doesn't even have landing gear, you have to hand launch and belly land it, but it just flies right, and looks great doing it.

I have many others I love, like the PZ T-28, but thought I would stop at just two for now. So what do the rest of you guys and gals enjoy flying?

I have an old wore out. Battle damaged PZ Corsair. Looks bad. Flies so great.
Two things a pilot can waste, the sky above him and the runway behind him.

I truly enjoy my Dynam Grand Cruiser . It's such a easy flying plane . I don't do much more than mostly scale flying, a roll or loop here and there but that's it .

Second is between the Freewing AT6 or Pandora. The Pandora in low wing setup is really fun . The AT6 just goes ! I love the retracting gear and the sound of the prop cutting the air as it comes by .

I would have to say my Dynam T-28. Its somewhat under powered but still fun to fly. But then I like the FMS skytrainer...wait...maybe my favorite is the DHC-2 Beaver. Put a set of snow skis on and you will have fun for hours. But then there's the tried and true PZ Archer. Wait... I think the airfield p-51 is a riot to fly too!!
I guess maybe I don't have a favorite Lol ...they all have their own personalities, and depends on my mood which ones come to the field with me.
I like them ALL! just wish spring would hurry up and get here so I can fly the damn things again! :D

[*]I have several that I love to fly:

          1.  Dynam Tempest.  It just flies right for me and easy to land with a little pressure on the stick.  It looks great in the air with the Nav lights and a few other modifications.
          2.  Freewing A-10.  Love the sound of the twin fans.  This plane flies great with the flaps and is a breeze to land.  As a Navy vet., I have some experience with pilots who flew this bird.  There is nothing like hearing that Gatling gun fire
          3.  Dynam T-28 after modifying the motor, adding flaps, upgrading the nose gear.  I turn to this plane after have not flown for a while.  Nothing like building some confidence before moving the ME 262.  My Durafly BF-110 is a just a honey of a plane to fly as well.  Well, I could on with others in my fleet.

I personally love my FMS Sky Trainer 182, she is a brute. She is stable in flight, is capable of doing some pretty cool aerobatics, she can also fly slow lofting around like a big hawk. With the power 25 from e-flite she has incredible power unlimited vertical and is super fast. She is just an easy fun plane to fly! My 182 gets more air time than any of my warbirds, mainly because I don't mind crashing the ol' gal'. I tend to push my limits with this plane. At this point she has a birch firewall, birch wing supports, birch battery door, a modified motor mount (for the power 25), all hi-tec hs 9g metal gear servos, dubro 2 1/2 inch tires, dubro 1/2a nose gear, and a 50a ESC. (so yeah, the only thing FMS about this plane is whats left of the foam. LOL)

I would say I really like my Hacker Ultimate Biplane. It is a very easy, and comfortable plane to fly, and especially land. She just floats in. I do not do any 3D stuff as a rule, but this plane makes you want to do crazy spins, or loops, and you can't get into trouble. Just let go of the sticks and she settles back to level.

Been flying 35 years and must say I never had more fun flying. Picking one is TOUGH but I find myself addicted to my dynam 262 totally stock been flying it about 1 1/2 years and still love it. Others that I totally enjoy are my Memphis belle ,Waco bipe dynam great flyer, and a freewing f-86 from motion r/c that I must say is pretty sweet. Love the looks and the sound how would you like to have to build that from a wood kit? Got to love this sport it has come a long way.

Believe it or not, my 3 Art-Tech Pitts are my favorites. They were junk, brand new. I beefed them up (lots of mods) and put E-Flite 480 motors in them. I also painted them with my own air show scheme. They are, now, unbelievable aerobatic fliers. They'll do a snap roll so fast, you might miss it. A Lomcovak ? Don't get me started! All this and they land like a dream. I guess my most relaxing plane to fly is my FZ Beaver. I love flying her off water. The Doctor

It's interesting to hear what is relaxing to different people. Some like speed, some like barrel rolling, some like cruising, and some like floating. We are a diverse bunch :)

Yea, the ME-262 is a fun plane to fly.  I use a 5-cell battery and upgraded the elevator servo to a high torque one.  I have more control with this option.

I fly both the Dynam and Freewing ME 262.  Both fly real well.

After getting back into the hobby two years back after a thirty year break, I bought the Flyzone Sensei. It's a great trainer and fun sport flier and takes a beating. That remains my go to fun flier. For some pucker factor I bought the plane  I always wanted last season the FMS 1400 Corsair, beautiful plane. I just got the Rock Hobby Waco and will maiden as soon as the weather breaks in Chicago. Next on my list is the FMS P51-b Dallas Darling. To think 30 years ago their was only balsa kits and gas engines and less time flying and more time building. Love this hobby even more! Good flying everyone.

Flygirl is right, we are a diverse group, but it is all the different perspectives that makes this forum and hobby great! You guys have made me want to try some other planes that are your favorites and see how well I like them as well.
I'm looking forward to reading more of your inputs!

                                    Hi Flygirl,
I still have my original 72 mhz Cox Sanwa 6 channel. Sure doesn't compare to my Tactic 650. Just saving it for posterity.
As they say a blast from the past. Good flying! Roy B.

I loved my Sensei too Roy, that was my very first R/C plane. Mine took its beating 15 seconds into its maiden where it met up with a pine tree. Totally destroyed!  :@

Out of the few planes I own I think I like the Sport Cub the best. However the F4u Corsair with SAFE is also fun to fly.
