  • So what do we EDF pilots do about new max speed and alt rules imposed by FAA

These are the purposed rules by the FAA. The things that standout are the max speed of 100mph my Me262 will easily shoot past that and 500 feet AGL isn't that high when doing scale aerobatics in a fast large plane. What do you guys think?
What I love is they restrict you to 500AGL or below but go on to tell you that you can't fly at 18,000 feet......yea ok.

Unmanned aircraft must weigh less than 55 lbs. (25 kg).
Visual line-of-sight (VLOS) only; the unmanned aircraft must remain within VLOS of the operator or visual observer.
At all times the small unmanned aircraft must remain close enough to the operator for the operator to be capable of seeing the aircraft with vision unaided by any device other than corrective lenses.
Small unmanned aircraft may not operate over any persons not directly involved in the operation.
Daylight-only operations (official sunrise to official sunset, local time).
Must yield right-of-way to other aircraft, manned or unmanned.
May use visual observer (VO) but not required.
First-person view camera cannot satisfy “see-and-avoid” requirement but can be used as long as requirement is satisfied in other ways.
Maximum airspeed of 100 mph (87 knots).
Maximum altitude of 500 feet above ground level.
Minimum weather visibility of 3 miles from control station.
No operations are allowed in Class A (18,000 feet & above) airspace.
Operations in Class B, C, D and E airspace are allowed with the required ATC permission.
Operations in Class G airspace are allowed without ATC permission
No person may act as an operator or VO for more than one unmanned aircraft operation at one time.
    No careless or reckless operations.
Requires preflight inspection by the operator.
A person may not operate a small unmanned aircraft if he or she knows or has reason to know of any physical or mental condition that would interfere with the safe operation of a small UAS.
Proposes a microUAS option that would allow operations in Class G airspace, over people not involved in the operation, provided the operator certifies he or she has the requisite aeronautical knowledge to perform the operation.

Probably nothing can be done as a single person and I don't know if you're an AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) member, but if not suggest you join and increase our numbers so we can be heard as one
united voice. You might want to go here: http://www.modelaircraft.org/aboutam..._Response.aspx and see if you agree with AMAs response to the FAA and if you do there is a template response you can copy and submit. Or you could just stop flying those whiney dang missles  ;)

I am a AMA member and a full scale pilot aswell the worst part of these new regs is if I get busted for flying a rc plane that violation goes against my pilots license. I find the FAA's fear of a accident due to a model and a full scale plane colliding laughable for several reasons
      1. I fly my models at my local airport and always land whenever a plane starts up or is comming in even if it's miles away so if model pilots give way then there is no issue
      2. The damage a model would cause to a plane would be minimal foam or balsa model vs metal plane If I had to choose between hitting an rc plane and a buzzard or other large bird I'd hit the plane as it will just fold up and bounce off while a bird has a lot more solid mass and will come through the windshield.

I love the last line. Directed at people who spend thousands of $$ per year to flip and fly their model airplanes.  I know several people who would classify us as nuts!
Sounds like a Catch 22 to me!
