  • Where'd all the 1100's go?

Seems like there used to be a lot more 1100mm planes on the market. They are the absolute perfect size for me for a number of reasons I won't rehash. I really like what Motion and Flightline have done with the 1200 planes, but they are just 100mm too big for me, and I don't want to invest in a bunch new, bigger 4S batteries to fly them. About the only thing left are the FMS 1100 Zero and Typhoon. They are low on stock, older designs, and not as nice as the newer stuff. Durafly (may be a dirty word here, sorry if it is) is doing a pretty good job with their 1100's, I have two, a Spit and BF-109.

Am I the only 1100 nut here? Sure wish I could use my all of 2200 3S and 4S batteries in a nice Flightline or FMS warbird with all the cool details and features that Flightline came out with. How about it Motion Guys, are they just not in demand anymore?

    Thanks!
    Dan

I’m with you 100% the 1200mm is pretty much my limit. I’d much rather take out 3or4 planes instead of 1or2 plus I’m not big on $100 to $200 worth of batteries just to fly one plane one time.

I agree, I love having options, plus if you have something go wrong and you only have 1-2 planes you've cut your flying time at the field in half if not field repairable. Or if both have a problem you're done for the day, however if you have multiple planes, the fun continues

I searched Motion some more. Think I'll pull the trigger 0n the older Zero, or maybe the 1120 FW-190. Decisions, decisions...

44" wingspan FW-190 V2 - PNP - from FlightLine RC - FLW204P The new FW-190 V2 is the latest offering of quality warbirds from FlightLine RC/Motion RC.

Would an EDF plane qualify? I mention it because of two reasons. One is they can be found under 1100mm. Second you can run 6S plane with two 3S batteries of the same capacity and C rating connected in series as long as they fit.

                Examples:

                FW 70mm Hawk T-1 1020mm
                FW 70mm Yak-130 920mm
                FW 70mm F-16 878mm
                FW 80mm A-F Skyhawk 940mm

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm just not a big EDF fan. I have one, the Freewing F-8 Crusader, and take it out every so often. EDF's tend to have a longer fuse than wingspan, and get "big" pretty quick. The reason 1100 is my limit is not storage or car space, it's the relatively small field I have to fly in. EDF's are usually quite a bit faster, and require more airspace. There's also the noise issue, I want to keep my field multi-use, and those fans may annoy some folks I share the field with...

I totally agree about the EDF noise with those 5 blade fans, I always found them annoying. But 10 or 12 blade fans are a different case. They actually sound like a turbine and produce more of a whoosh sound. Hence why I would never own one of those 64mm EDF without changing out the fan and several other modifications to it. By the time I would be done with it, it would had cost me close almost as much as a 70mm EDF.
But I think either the 70mm Hawk or Yak 130 would be a better fit for you because they can fly at a slower speed than even the 64mm jets without stalling. As matter a fact those planes are so easy going that I have read that both planes are the go to warm up jets for a lot of pilots on here. And there are a few EDF's that don't have a long fuse like the Yak-130 at only 1050mm.

I wouldn't go lower than 70mm, but would stay 80mm or 70mm, as I think 90mm is getting too expensive for me.
