• Good Small Plane

My wife insists I get a small plane to fly around the neighborhood so I thought I would get your opinions. I have had the following before and I am not interested in getting them again. They are:

Ember 2
Champ
Sport Cub S
UMX Radian

Preferably something that uses 1S Lipo 150-180 as I already have 6-7 of them. Not a requirement though.
I have also found the planes above quality not so good. I would like a good well made small plane. 24 inches or less wingspan.

So are there any others you recommend? I have a DX6 transmitter.

Hi jobinseattle,
I had to read your post twice....you're wife WANTS you to get a plane? You need to get that in writing and notarized, I have never seen that before.  I think with most of us it's the wife DOESN'T want is to get another plane. LOL.
Sorry I don't have any suggestions for small plane, mine are all big. Just wanted to comment on your post.

We really enjoy our Parkzone vapors. Need 0 wind though you can fly around trees through patios under porches walk beside it and with the lights do it all at night if you want. We don't have the night vapor just the standard one.

Are you sure she said you need to get a plane ???
Was she under medication or maybe a drink or ten ,,,,,,,

Sorry couldn't help it . Just keep in mind that any thing small is like a kite , least bit of wind is very tuff on them .

Of course you could get a small EDF  :D

The new UMX PT17 looks like it will be a blast. Biplane too! Whaaaa, it should fly nice and slow and with AS3X seem very smooth.

UMX Radian..no doubt! If you are flying in a tight area, this is the plane. It handles wind very well..AS3X. Second choice.. Hobby zone Champ. Third choice UMX Pitts, but only if you are somewhat experienced. Hear me today..believe me tomorrow!!! The Doctor

Wife wants you to get a plane... NICE!!!

Sport Cub gets my vote.

My first plane was the Champ, I still have it in a box somewhere waiting for my boy. The dang thing just about flies its self, in the right wind it will fly staying still is easy to fix when you crash, and you can do some basic aerobatics with full throw on the flight surfaces. I got to the point where I would catch it instead of landing it, then I put it away. It is light enough that if you hit a car, kid, house, neighbors dog or a window the damage will be minimal. At times the champ gets confused; thinks it is a bird and nests in a tree for days, even weeks at a time.

As to what Doc said about the UMX Radian and wind. I'm a believer after this weekend....

+1 on the Hobbyzone Champ. I fly mine in the front yard, over the house, round the back yard, down the street, 180 back to the front and do it again. I mix it up with my micro Polecat (another fine plane but discontinued). Champ is resilent and almost every hobby shop has spare parts. A pocket full of 1s/160s and your good for an hour!

The e flite Apprentice was recently recommended to my wife, pretty cool little airplane.  Level one, all you do is bank the aileron controls and hold, just like steering a car(has a gyro system as well) Level two, you fly by banking with aileron and pulling back the elevator, like normal, stull with the gyro system, and third level is without the gyro, with normal controls.
Diane actually did an almost vertical landing in a fifteen mph wind and laughed all the way.  Good little airplane, on sale right now too.

Greetings Gang,

I think somebody missed the part about "24" Wingspan or less".......  :)

ALL the the options mentioned are excellent planes!!!!

I use the Hobby Zone Champs for my students and every one of them (the students) really liked and learned a lot with them.
The nice bright Yellow paint job makes it nice and easy to see.

Second choice would be the E-Flite UMX, PT-17 w/AS3X

Bottom line, Pick a plane, buy the plane, fly the plane.

Good Luck
