  • How do you swap FMS landing gear on FMS retracts?

Per the title, my FMS B-25 1400mm came with a bad "sporadic"operating nose gear retract from the factory, the one I was sent as a replacement is dead as a door nail.
However, I have extra main gear retracts I would like to swap the nose gear into.
I can't figure out how the landing gear is removed from the retract to swap.
I did a internet search and still could not find.

The nose gear is normally held in with a e-clip. You have to take the retract housing apart. On the mains they are grub screws are located on the sides. A good video to to watch on how to work on these things is the flightline P38 gear swap video Ryan did.

Thanks, last night I went for broke and took the whole thing apart and swapped the landing gear.
Amazing how switching gear requires taking apart the whole etract.
I do not like the replacement retracts they sent me, the interior piece that holds the gear is plastic not metal like the original ones.
However, I had one original spare retract so I used that one.
Will test it today and see if it works.
I have some spare E-Flite retracts I might look into using to replace those FMS ones, only if there is an easier way to swap landing fear.
I cannot imagine every time someone breaks a landing gear having to take apart the whole thing to swap out.

You may find that Eflite retracts are a whole different animal when it comes to adapting them to fit other brands of planes.
As for taking apart a retract every time one breaks, I think we all do that OR, we buy a whole new one as a complete unit for that plane. Keep the old one in case you need one of those little screws or some other tiny little component later.

          Good point.
So far I think those E-Flite retracts are my best performers.

They are likely your most expensive retracts, too. Personally, I think they cost way too much. Best to get a replacement that was meant for that plane out of their spare parts list. If you're going to replace all your plane's retracts with Eflite, you'll find that in some cases, the retracts themselves will cost you as much as the plane or more. As you get into heavier planes, you'll need bigger and more expensive Eflite retracts. Also, you have to replace all 3. If you need to replace just one, a stock spare part is the better option.
