RE: It's Good To Be Back!!

I'm just amazed that Bill can be away from home and airplanes for so long!  Anyone want to bet he took one with him?

RE: It's Good To Be Back!!

      Greetings Guys,

Well, I'm back again and have just completed my plane inventory....

All present and accounted for...... my location is still secure.

GMan, packing space was limited so all I could manage to take was a small quad-copter.

It was a good trip but, once again, better to be home.

RE: It's Good To Be Back!!

LOL, good to have you back buddy!!
I can now look with pride that all my Mustangs have been maidened!!  Had a rough takeoff with Old Crow on the second flight.  Left the gyro on and tried to takeoff, I had briefly turned it on during the first flight and it acted weird, wanted to roll.  Old guy brain failed to correlate this with the gyro aileron setting being reversed.  I landed with the gyro off of course and it wasn't too bad for a maiden flight, I felt pretty good.  Plugged in the second battery and for some unexplainable reason (Old Timers disease?) I left the gyro on.  Off course she went into a war dance, ended up with the landing gear removed, one beyond repair.  No big deal, save to the pride, she's back on her gear as we speak and I just have some minor wiring and cosmetics to take care of, then she's back in the air, boy you gotta love foamies!!

RE: It's Good To Be Back!!

          Greetings GMan,

Glad to hear you escaped any extreme damage!

It seems that with today's RC aircraft and all the electronics and gadgets now associated with flying, our pre-flight check lists just keep getting longer and longer.
This of course increases our chances of missing some tid-bit here and there.

But, the ultimate equalizer in the equation is indeed the benefits of being a foamy!!!

            You bet!
Now the only thing is the gear doors.  The outer doors came off and the pins that slide into the wing broke off.  Motion hasn't got a spare set in stock so I'm going to have to McGyver something for pins.  Did a successful repair on BBD with a nail.  Have to take a look around and see what else I have that is long and strong with the right diameter, the rest is pretty easy.  The one retract had the wire ripped out of it but the other, the one I just replaced, was fine.  Used my spare and so the gear is retracting fine now, the oleo strut will not collapse at all, this being the one that was hard to collapse in the first place, so I have a new one on the way as well as some spare prop blades.  I had a spare set fortunately but I at least learned that lesson, have a spare pair!

RE: It's Good To Be Back!!

Yeah, AMA had them on their website and I ordered two back in June. Can't find them any more but they must be there somewhere.  National Model Aviation Day on August 15 and there are events throughout the US going on.  Proceeds for the shirts are going toward the Wounded Warrior Project

We're having a Static Display in the morning, then lots of food, contests, lessons, raffles, free flying and we'll close the day out with a paintball-airplane shootout!!!

Should be a blast and allow us to raise a few buck for a very worthy cause!!

Hey, good for you guys Bill!
That's great to hear.  We haven't anything formally organized, but I'll tell you, I'll be taking to the air that day for as long as I can.  Old Crow will be ready for the air again.  Got some sanding and small stuff to take care of now, and just waiting for the new strut and gear doors.  I McGyvered the gear doors so they'll work, but Motion has them back in stock so what the heck.  So far so good.  I won't be making that mistake again.  Other than that, it was a great day.  Diane got flying as I mentioned and that's worth a lot to me!!
