Anyone heard or know anything on how they like the new Sportsman S by Hobbyzone? I know the price kills it for me and the land by itself is pretty cool and could be a good thing in a heavy wind, but it does take away being a pilot I think. I was just wondering if anyone else had any input on this plane.

RE: Sportsman S
Although the technology is cool, my personal opinion is too much technology is bad when learning to fly. I mean eventually you need to learn without all of that. Next they will have a plane that will fly itself. If that is the case might be time to find another hobby.
As someone who is still progressing with this hobby I think club instruction is the best because experienced flyers can teach you things that doing it on your own you probably will never even think of.
I have been with my club 6 months or so and it was the best thing I could have done.
And I have the Delta Ray (SAFE), Super Cub S (SAFE), F4U Corsair (SAFE), and Sport Cub S (SAFE)
Although in beginner mode they can get you off the ground and you can fly around but there is much more to it.
Of course just my opinion...

RE: Sportsman S
I have nothing against assisted flying if that's what a pilot is into . But it should be for learning the hobby only ! What has one accomplished by having a program or system do all the work .
People are forgetting that this is a hobby not a job . You need to come into this knowing things good and bad are going to happen. All planes will fly . All planes will crash . That's the nuts n bolts of it . Anyone that has any time into this hobby that tells you they have never crashed is lying! It's part of it and should be known it will happen if it hasn't yet .
The joy is learning to get it in the air then when times up back down. Then you can say "I did that and it was very cool " .
I've heard stories of pilots having some type of assistance, other than human, and getting so use to it and forgot to turn on or off which ever it was that needed . Then a issue whether it's wind or anything else and not being able to handle what's been thrust on them then it's straight to the ground. They knew nothing of what to do because of no experience. Experience is the only and best teacher there is .
These electronic gadgets are only crutches or even walkers and do nothing to help you learn to fly if they always depended on .
Sorry for the rant

Hey Pauly,Originally posted by PaulyAnyone heard or know anything on how they like the new Sportsman S by Hobbyzone? It's a great flying plane. There is a lot to it, but what's cool is if you don't need it don't use it. I'm getting to know one right now and have flown it with all of the assist functions and tested them out. Again, the assist features are there if you need them, you don't have to use it. You can fly in experienced mode and still be capable of mild aerobatics and land it yourself. You can land it yourself in any of the modes whether it be beginner or intermediate. The auto land function still requires piloting. Your controls are effective so obstacles can be steered around. There are only a couple of fully autonomous situations that the plane does. There is a big circular Virtual Fence that once you fly out of the plane will turn around and fly back to the middle of the circle and fly a circular holding pattern until you either A toggle the Mode Switch or simply tap the Panic Button. Likewise if you get disoriented you can let go of the sticks and it will again enter the Holding Pattern function.
Anyone who has flown any of the GPS assisted Multi Rotors will recognize the setup and compass calibration sequences. Is it for everyone, no. Can it help a new flyer, yes.
