  • How about some ARFs

I know there has been a lot of conversation about foam versus balsa/ply, but I was hoping that perhaps MRC could start carrying a few balsa/ply ARFs, along with a potential "Completion Package" of recommended items to finish the plane. I am currently wanting a larger scale Piper Cub with at least an 1800mm wingspan, and am being forced to look elsewhere. You could take a poll on what customers would be interested in, and perhaps stock a few to gage the interest level.

    Thanks for the consideration.

I have, for the most part, moved on to balsa/ ply ARF's. I am, however, buying all my electronics and hardware from MRC. I wish MRC would carry Great Planes ARF's. I would buy from MRC instead of Tower. Doc

Hey Doc-Thanks for the post. I also have one GP ARF, the Sopwith Camel they had a couple of years ago and I really enjoy flying it. A different feel from all my foamies, and that has made me want to get the large Cub now. still enjoy flying foam planes, but wanting to branch out some. Hope that MRC will near us and start picking up some ARFs. The Great Planes line-up is nice, and Seagull looks to have some really nice planes too.

We are considering carrying some electric balsa planes. However, we need to redesign our site a bit. We don't want customers to buy a balsa plane thinking it is a foam plane so we need to have clear differentiation on our site. We are thinking about the best way to accomplish this.

Roger that! I have been eyeballing the Escapade MX from Great Planes and wouldn't mind spending my cash here for this one.

Tom-Thanks for the update on your plans. I hope it does work out that MRC will carry some balsa/ply ARFs. I plan to keep flying my foam planes and will keep buying them as well, but would really like to have some alternatives to foam as well. Particularly in some of the larger scale Cubs, Decathalons, Cessnas, and other civilian planes.

Tom seems they could be in a new category on the drop down under airplanes. " Balsa ARF"

This is a good idea and as Tom said, we're looking into it. Which ARF brands would you like to see most?

I really like the Seagull and Great Plane brands. Right now, I only have the one GP Sopwith and enjoy flying it, and have ordered a 71" wingspan Piper Cub, but only received it today and have not built it yet, but it appears to be a very nice ARF.

                    RE: How about some ARFs

Seagull has some good ARFs, as does Phoenix Models. I've had great luck with ESM and VQ as well, like many people.

I highly recommend JHH (jethangar.com) for jet KITs. They're not really ARFs, but well worth the effort for the money. US made, too! K&A Models is another great example in that category.

Timely, I'm working on an e-flite super cub now. Balsa/Ply construction.

Good point RCcruz. I should have added that to my original request. I am not interested in planes that start going much over the 300.00 mark. Gets too expensive to build, outfit, and potentially lose in the event of a case of dumb thumbs!

More power to those that enjoy the larger expensive models, I love to see them fly, just not willing to risk it for me.

Any more word on possibly getting a few ARFs in at Motion RC? I know you guys were looking into it, and I am curious to see if you are getting close. If so, what product line(s) will you be carrying?
