  • Flight Control Rigging Tool

    Hey All,
I just watched a set of videos from Motion on the Tactic TTX650 radio system.

    http://www.motionrc.com/tactic-ttx650-6-channel-transmitter/

The third video goes through setting up the flight controls of an aircraft to the manual. Is there a tool out there to assist in measuring? A tool or jig I guess I'm thinking of? For rigging the F-15 (the real air superiority fighter not the RC version) was  easy. Tape measure, ruler and a few rig pins and of course the tech data.

I'm still flying the wings off of my FMS 1280 so I'm far from rigging any surfaces but just overwhelmed with questions. Do the manuals tell you where to take the measurement? Split the aileron or from the top of the aileron. Are you measuring deflection from the wing tip or the flap? I just read more on the post for the F-104 and Alpha was given flight control measurements in mm. Is mm more common than inches? If so I could laser etch a 6"machinist ruler and use the 3 inch mark as zero and mark it in MM. For those that are in inches was is the standard? 32nd, 64th 16th or is every manufacture different?

I bet I'm overthinking this.......having flight line flashbacks....

Sorry for all the questions. I was telling another RC co-worker about the same video and then got into a few "war stories" on rigging the Eagle and all these questions came up.

You all do know the difference between a fairy tail and a war story don't you?

A fairy tail starts out "Once upon a time" while a War Story starts out "no sh#t, this really happened!

    Thanks

    Kevin
