    RE: Are people just stupid?

I think the OP was just looking for someone to commiserate with that shared the same frustrations... I think we secretly curse to ourselves when someone shows up at a field that's empty, just as we are flying... Sure they have the same rights... But if it happened to me... I really wouldn't tell anyone that I thought "this idiot" showed up on the field and ruined my day... Except for like minded flyers like on this forum... I don't think the OP had the opinion that this guy showing up was really an idiot. Just maybe looking for someone to share the frustration with...

I often drive to a field, and look for people. No one around... I get everything out in a rush and try to get something in the air before I see someone walking their dog...

I think I can relate to the frustration of having to call it quits because someone shows up...

But I really don't think that I have any more right to be there than anyone else...

So I'm flying the pattern and this idiot in a van pulls in and parks IN THE EXACT MIDDLE of the parking lot! What the neck dude, do you not see that I'm the only person here, and I'm flying, and (1) you are right in the exact wrong area? I have seen this guy several times and he just drives in, parks, gets out of the van and smokes a butt. I think he's just killing time as its at the same time every time he had been there. It hasn't effected me before as I was just leaving anyway.
I managed to get my plane down at the opposite end of the parking lot because it was a small one and didn't need a lot of strip. However, I had been flying my WACO that needs a lot more runway for me to be comfortable.
       (2) This boob had seen me numerous times so be knows what I'm doing. Should I go over and tell him to (3) get the heck out of the way when I'm there flying? (6) I suppose I should be tactful as I'm representing our sport, but (4) I would really like to rip him a new one!
       (5) Am I being unreasonably angry here?
      (1) Who are you to proclaim who is in the wrong area? It's a PUBLIC parking lot. What he does there is completely irrelevant.
      (2) You don't have any idea who this fellow is, yet you have the disdain to call him a "boob"?? Quite shallow.
      (3) You have no right to dictate ANYTHING to ANYONE while entertaining yourself in a PUBLIC parking lot.
      (4) That would be totally undignified & unreasonable as you don't have the justification to do so.
      (5) ABSOLUTELY!!!!! Have a cup of coffee & chill a bit.
      (6) Probably the most coherent statement you made entirely.

I am also retired. I belong to a great RC club & I have the benefit to fly on the super nice 55 acre farm that adjoins my property. Maybe take a day to find a suitable location in a fairly open area that you could get permission to fly. Don't be so adamant that you have more rights than another just because you're flying your models in an area that is deemed for ANYONE to use. Nuff said.....

OMG Denny....you seem really pissed about what I said.....CALM DOWN a bit!!!!!  I was just making a "simple" statement and you seem to have put ALL the blame on me!  HEY....I was kind of there FIRST!!!!!   I totally understand that I have no "right" to the public parking lot, I was just making a statement that some people are oblivious to their surroundings, and I thought this person would have realized that I was flying and "maybe" been a bit more courteous, instead of just plopping dead center of the lot, light up a cigarette and look around like nothing is going on!  If I had seen him another time I would have approached and we could have met, but I haven't seen him again.  I have seen numerous other people come by and approach me and asked what I was doing, but they parked over on the outskirts of the parking lot and walked over to me. I do try and leave if someone shows up because I don't want to be flying that close to people anyway.
You took this completely out of context.    Sorry you took it the wrong way.

        Hey Keith,
Quite the contrary....your first sentence would indicate that it is YOU who are "pissed". Getting "pissed" about anothers' response doesn't solve an issue nor does it make any difference. I simply responded with "my" interpretation of "your own words". I did not change anything with the context of what YOU wrote. The English language is the largest & most in-depth language there is, thus it can be easily manipulated to project quite a variable of the readers' perception. You wrote, in a "rant"(ie. displeasure/pissed/angry) what you were feeling regarding the entire issue instead of formulating with calmness the episode & perhaps asked members of the forum what they may have thought if they were in your shoes. You, instead, placed all the blame & castigate the individual parking in the lot who had the same right to be there as you.

        Let's continue:
        (7) It is YOU who are pissed since your thread is a "RANT". Believe me, at my age, calm is the best & I keep it that way. Simple works....has never failed me.
        (8) A totally demeaning description of someone you do not know.
        (9) Your projection of your being "pissed", thus your validation for your "rant".
        (10) YES!.... I put ALL the blame on YOU because there is no one else that is to blame....quite simple, eh?
        (11) Absolutely meaningless.
        (12) This is the perfect example why your "rant" is also meaningless.
        (13) In an empty parking lot, what other "surroundings" would there be concern for?
        (14) Why & how would he have known you were flying if he wasn't looking skyward & just paying attention to his driving & where to park & perhaps listening to his radio?
        (15) I took NOTHING out of context. I read every word of your OP & your words were so written that my interpretation is what every other reader would interpret. Again....the English language is quite precise.

        Ok, Keith. Your turn....
