Just finished up my FMS A10 to go with my FMS Pitts and several other planes. I was initially thinking of the freewing 1400mm Mustang as the only warbird I currently have is a .50 sized SE-5 that I havent flown in years. Then I watched the videos of the 80mm F-86 and that jet sound is just awesome. I have two 4500 6cell batteries already but I doubt I can fly a jet off my grass strip here at my house. I was thinking of the Mustang since I can use the same battery pack from the a10 in it and I should be able to fly it off a grass strip. Besides the obvious ( buy both) whats a fellow to do. Decisions..Decisions....

RE: What Next?
If you like Mustangs go with P-51Bs after all they are the ones that broke the luftwaffe's back.
I like the FMS.

Most of the jets land too fast for grass (unless cropped real short), as the drag of the grass tends to pull the retracts out of the wing.
How old are the 6 cell batteries?

RE: What Next?
Less than a year on the 6 cell batteries. I like the looks of the Big Beautiful Doll but it looks like the Freewing products Mustangs have a little edge in quality over the FMS. Of course that's based solely on what I've been reading online. And we know everything you read on the internet is true :)

RE: What Next?
The F-86 is a fantastic flyer and can use your 6s 4500s. The FMS or Freewing P-51s are fun scale flyers and can use your A-10's 4s 4000s. Either way I think you'll be happy. One thing to consider would be your field. The P-51's wheels are taller than the F-86's, so the P-51s will have less trouble if you're on grass.Live Q&A every Tuesday and Friday at 9pm EST on my Twitch Livestream

RE: What Next?
Good to learn that the batteries still have a lot of life in them. I have both FMS and Freewing models. I can't objectively say that one has better quality over the other. Other than all my Freewing models have nylon hinges. Not sure if this is a brand issue or a price point issue.Originally posted by Geebob1957Less than a year on the 6 cell batteries. Alpha, aren't all the 80mm EDF capable of using the 6 cell 4500 mAh batteries?
On the information highway you need to consider the source. Much to my surprise MotionRC keeps a very loose hand on the direction of the discussion. So while this is a vendor forum it is very objective in its exchange of information. This is very unlike what we see on some of the larger forum sites, were protecting the ad base is paramount.
While I think MotionRC wants to use this forum as a sales tool. They also want to use it as a means to gage the market, (concerns, aspiration and desires).
Let the truth reign,

RE: What Next?
Hey guys, as you probably know, I have two FMS P51's ( P51D Big Beautiful Doll and P51B Shangrila) and one Freewing P51D (Old Crow, but converted from the Iron Ass version)
If you go the 'with sound' version of the Freewing, she's a heavier bird. To offset that, Freewing has 4250-580kv motor where the FMS P51's come stock with the 4250 540kv.
Now, if you go the Freewing without sound, comparing apples to apples so to speak, bang for your buck wise, the Freewing has the edge with a $279.00 price tag, she comes with ball link connections, better landing gear construction (see below) and the prop blades are slightly fatter (more paddle in you paddle blade prop)and the bigger motor. Plus, she just has a look about her that screams P51, a little wider in the fuse and more attention to detail, anyone with both will know what I mean.
FMS Mustangs are great flying planes, I'm in the process of bringing BBD up to par with the FW P51 by upgrading the motor and ESC and getting ball link connectors, so there's the added expense (not to mention the metal trunions that I replaced on the landing gear of both FMS birds, well worth the money!)
I also replaced the stock servos in BBD with 17g metal servos after one of the aileron servos stopped functioning.
IMHO though, I think the FMS planes fly a little better. That's just me. BBD flies more to my liking right now is probably a better way to put it. Shangrila does not like to slow down (and that's with the stock 540 in her) Old Crow flies very well, but tends to like to shed her landing struts on a hard landing, out with the glue and back in they go. She's the one I've had more 'accidents' with, but really I can attribute them to the stick jockey rather than the plane.
If I had it to do over again, I would have gone the FW without sound, but that's a personal thing as well.
All in all its a tough call. My preference is BBD with the mods I've done, although I can't compare her to the FW without sound and to get her to where I have mine is another $100 plus. So weigh it carefully, but either way you really can't go wrong, it depends on what you want to do and how deep your pockets are.
