  • Beautiful day for a Maiden

Temps in the middle 60's, sunny, and light winds today so I loaded up my shiny new Freewing 80mm F-86 (and a few old veteran flyers   ) and headed for the field.

Maiden on the F-86 could not have gone better.  Tracked straight and lifted off with one notch of flaps, raised the gear and flaps and three clicks of right aileron and she was rock solid. Did a few passes and a couple of split-s's and then slowed her down, dropped flaps and gear and did a pass to see how she handled at low speed (rock solid again). Made my first approach a little to fast and bounced up about a foot so just eased into the throttle and went around again and second attempt was still slightly fast but touched on the mains with no bounce and settled right in  :D .

This is actually the second flight and was taken with my Samsung S5 phone so I apologize for the quality and occasional out of focus, but you'll get the idea.... the sound is great though and even better than I expected   .  My buddy did use a better recording device for the maiden and I'll post that when he gets it uploaded to YouTube.

The F-86 is one great flying plane.  I happened to love this one and my ME-262.  Both are great flyers.  Congrats on a great flight.

Thanks Rocketeer and Pheonix. Funny you should mention the ME-262, there was a gentleman flying one today and he had a big boombox setting next to him playing German patriotic anthems during his flight  . It did fly very nicely though.

The next time you fly and he is there, take out America (Ray Charles) and play for him

Thanks everyone for a the nice comments and I like the Ray Charles idea ;) . It is an excellent place to fly even though it's about a 45 minute ride.
