  • LiPos for Blondie

Your ad for the E-flite P51D 'Blondie' [http://www.motionrc.com/e-flite-p-51d-mustang-bnf-basic-with-as3x-1219mm-48-wingspan-bnf/] shows it uses a 3S 2200mAh 35C lipo, and states as a required part: "•EC3 Female to T-Connector Male Adapter - ADMEC3FTCONNM (required if you want to use an Admiral brand battery in this aircraft).

    Why?

    There's also a promotional item shown (valid 11/23 - 12/31/15) that says
"FREE 3S 2200mAh BATTERY with the purchase of this plane ($30 value)."

    Yet the recommended battery [•Admiral 11.1V 3S 2200mAh LiPo battery - EPR22003*] is priced at only $19.99. What's the $10 difference?

    RE: LiPos for Blondie

Most other Admiral batteries have the T connector. The ec3 connectors on them are relatively new the adapter allows some of us to use our older batteries.

Thanks, farmflyer. But "allows" vs "required" is part of the issue with the ad's wording.

        RE: LiPos for Blondie

Required is the correct term "if" you want to use" the Admiral battery as supplied.
"(required if you want to use an Admiral brand battery in this aircraft)"

It is assumed that you the end user don't want to change the connector supplied on the Admiral brand battery. So from a plug and play perspective, typical for the customer base MotionRC is aimed at, "Required" will result in a lot fewer frustrated customers. That is the goal of MotionRC's customer focus.

Now if you have the skill sets to change connector then the issue does not pertain to you and the wording is academic. I recommend you use 4mm bullets with the Jeti anti spark feature.

          RE: LiPos for Blondie

If the aircraft comes with an EC3 connector on the ESC, as the "required adapter" implies, why not just supply the available and in-stock and identically priced Admiral LiPo with EC3 as the free battery incentive advertised with the plane? Un-complicate the thing, & no 'adapter' required!

And fellows, please note: my question was addressed to MRC ("Your ad for the E-flite P51D...") - not open speculation. I would prefer facts, not guesswork or opinion. Accordingly, please let them answer.
          Thanks.

The form is for the exchange of ideas and information.
If you have a specific concern with the running of MotionRC like seeing a problem with an ad try this form.
            http://www.hobbysquawk.com/Forum-Motion-RC-General-Feedback

Now E-flite is a new product line for MotionRC. And as such MotionRC did not have the ECx connectors for their brand (Admiral) of lipos when they introduced "Blondie". They have now added Admiral batteries with the EC"x" connectors. These are a better value than the Eflite batteries marketed by Horizon. So you might want to give MotionRC a heads up to update their "Blondie" sales page. Maybe all their E-flite product sales pages.

So your observation is now valid, as MotionRC now carries Admiral batteries with EC"x" connectors. The Battery incentive program is an Horizon marketing ploy not MotionRC. So you are likely to get an E-flite branded lipo, depending on the terms of the contract between MotionRC and E-flite.

            All the best,
            Konrad

              RE: LiPos for Blondie

There are many types of connectors out there: Deans, Anderson, ECx, XTx, Super Tiger, Hitec, HXT, Bullets, etc. All of Horizon's aircraft in this size range such as the 1219mm P-51, in either their Parkzone or Eflite brands, use the blue "EC3 connector". This connector matches with the Eflite brand of batteries. Their planes, their batteries, the same EC3 connector.

The majority of the aircraft brands we sell which aren't Horizon (FMS, Freewing, Dynam, Techone) in this same size range use a red Deans style "T-connector", and most of the Admiral brand of batteries use this same T-connector.

If a customer has a Horizon/Eflite/Parkzone aircraft (EC3 connector) and they want to use an Admiral battery (T-connector), we sell a pre-soldered adapter. Recently, we have also worked with Admiral to begin offering select battery formats with an EC3 connector, so an adapter is not needed. Still, the website continues to cite the adapter on these aircraft's product pages, since we don't know what type of connector the customer might own or intend to use as they're reading the website. It is more important to draw attention to the need for an adapter if the customer has a battery with a connector other than the blue EC3 connector. It is important to note that the majority of battery manufacturers do NOT use the blue EC3 connector.

Regarding the recent battery promotion by Horizon/Eflite, it is their promotion, to promote the distribution of their batteries with their airplanes. Horizon wouldn't offer to send a competitor's battery (Admiral) with a Horizon plane. We (MotionRC) are a vendor of Horizon's products, and offer their promotions, under their direction. The objective of the promotion is to distribute more of Horizon's brand of batteries and get them into customer's hands. The last time I checked many customers have so far taken advantage of this promotion, and scored a free quality Horizon battery with their purchase of a participating Horizon plane. If you're on the fence, keep in mind that this promotion ends on 12/31/15.
