  • plane progression from beginner to advance

    Hello everyone,
I'm new to the sport, but have been researching and reading for days on this. I am about to get the simulator and start on a beginner plane, hoping to eventually advance to EDF jets.
I was just wondering, what was everyone's progression and choice of plane when you first started to where you are, especially the jet ones, i.e. what kind, how many? I know everyone is different and am curious as to the choices. Any other advice or opinions is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

RE: plane progression from beginner to advance

Welcome to the sport dt4629 . Here is my opinion get the simulator that will give you the best results I picked the phenix from eflite I find the graphics to be great and the aircraft match what your buying in most instances. As far as the airplane is concerned there are planes now that have safe tecnology the transmitter has 3 modes beginner, intermediate, and expert these planes will take off and land in beginer mode pretty much on there own,it's the eflite apprentice. What I learned on was the tiny Parkzone P-51 with as3x and was able to learn the basic skills to be able to return the next day with the same plane. Then I moved up to the Pandora and found this plane to be the greatest, started with high wing tail dragger and then progressed to low wing and from there you just keep following your experience. Hope this post helped you out, just remember stick time on the simulator will add very much enjoyment when you do a manuver you've been practicing on the sim. Good luck and enjoy plus the forum here is worth it's weight in cold so much great info..

I learned with a Hobbyzone Champ. It's an excellent trainer and handles wind quite well. I've actually flown one backwards! I, also, use the Phoenix simulator. It is very realistic and adjustable. You can adjust wind speed, direction, gusts, and themals. You can adjust from beginner to expert. It has just about every airplane and helicopter there is. Buy one. You'll save yourself a lot of money and heartache! Doc

I started a year and a half ago with the hobbyzone champ. Once I was comfortable with it for my first 4 channel plane I got the ultra micro t-28. Then I got the umx pitts because it was faster and more responsive. I might have learned more quickly than some but I got the eflite p-51 once I mastered the pitts. The eflite p-51 would be a great first warbird once you're ready. I can't make it stall, it just slows to a stop then noses forward. Flies so smoothly and handles wind really well because of the as3x. It does feel a little under powered but that's fine because it's a warbird and I love scale flying it. Once I mastered it I got the 64mm freewing f-22 4s version. I was nervous for the maiden but my nerves left almost immediately. Super fun and easy to fly, I always recommend it for someone's first edf. Then I got the 4s stinger 64 and now I'll be getting the stinger 90 when I can afford it!
So that's my story (long story short). Let us know when you get your first plane and update us with your progression! Good luck.

No problem. I forgot to mention I would also recommend getting a simulator. I didn't know about them when I started but I have one now and it has definitely helped improve my skills. And it's fun to use when you're stuck inside because of the weather!
