  • Eflite ultimate 2 vs night visionaire

I can only afford and only have enough room for one of these 2 planes. I have 7 planes but don't have any 3d and I've narrowed down my choices to either the eflite ultimate or the night visionaire. I'm leaning a little more towards the ultimate but I haven't decided for sure. I'll have both someday but for now I'll just stick with one and I can't make a decision! I want the night visionaire of course because of the pre installed led lights. I've always wanted to try night flying and it has so many good reviews on how well it flies.
I want the ultimate because it seems like it can do more hard 3d than the visionaire and I love the way it looks. Any suggestions on which one is overall better? Any pros/cons for either? Thanks in advance for any help.

Love my Ultimates but mono planes do fly better on average when it come to 3D. And as a novice 3Der (I assume) the Visionaire might be better.

You assumed correctly. I fly warbirds and jets and can do basic aerobatics but have never tried 3d. My umx pitts is aerobatic but not really 3d. I have heard that the visionaire is a great first 3d plane so now I might be a little more interested in that one. Thanks for the reply!

I've flown many Ultimates, from small ones right up to and including 50% size, and they all fly very well. The E-Flite Ultimate has been designed by Mike McConville , an aerobatic pilot and past TOC competitor. All of Mikes designs fly very well, and I'm sure the little Ultimate is no exception. Although I haven't flown this one, I'm sure it flies very well.

You will find a video of it flying both on the Motion RC website and on Horizon Hobby website.

Personally I would go with the Ultimate.

        Martin.

If we are dropping names the ParkZone® VisionAire® park flyer is specifically designed for sport pilots by 3D pioneer and multi time world champion Quique Somenzini. The VisionAire has all the same aerodynamic features like vortex generator and trailing edge dampeners. After all they were take from the VisionAire. They both have SAFE.

But the VisionAire does not have the coupling associated with bipes nor dose it suffer the high alfa rock that swept wings show. Note the Ultimate 2 has this well damped with those vortex gens.

And last the VisionAire was aimed at the intermediate pilot. It is a lot easier to realign a mono plane than a bipe after you hit the ground (SAFE or no SAFE).

Other than the LED gimmick that VisionAire looks to be the better intermediate (beginner 3D pilot) ship, regardless of who the father was! Again I love my Ultimates but the VisionAire looks to be the better entry level 3D ship.

          All the best,

Here is Quique explaining the whats and whys. I like his explanation of the dampeners 7:20 Allows you to turn up the gain on the gyros

Unfortunately I find that watching a great pilot fly the airplane really has no bearing on how I'll wind up flying the ship.

Weight is a very important issue the Ultimate 2 is advertised as be 1.3 Kg while the Night Visionair is listed at 1.45. You will feel that 150 grams !

Now a cautionary note. Order a few, like 3, extra servos. Both ships use the 13 gram servo. While the gears are "metal" they are very delicate and strip if the surface is bumped. I've never had one fail in the air so that's a good sign!

            All the best,
            Konrad

Don't know if it will help or not but one of the guys I fly with got one this past spring.... This was one of his first flights.
