  • Dynam Lights

I just finished my Flyzone Beaver and the lights on that are pretty impressive compared to the Dynam offerings. Maybe Dynam should borrow their system and have something that actually works. Can't be more than a Buck or two to add to a plane.

What was/is the issue with the Dynam lights?

The ROC Hobbies lights also work well and bright.

    All the best,

Yea, the first thing I did when bldg a Dynam was tear out the lights, there not even 5mm, and cannot see them when lit, totally useless. It amazes me that these Mfg keep some processes going when you know they have a massive problem with customers, even more amazing that this fix would not impact margins.
I ended up with my own inventory of 5 and 10mm LED's and install them in all my builds now.

So the Dynam LEDs work, they just are too small too throw much light.

On these forums many find it is easy to say something is junk. What is difficult, is describing the problem and then offer solutions. Good job CT. For all I knew the issue was improper voltage and current control burning out the LEDs.

        All the best,
        Konrad

Yes, they work if you can find the parts for the proper voltage, add plugs, On my Dynams I don't even mess with them. Not worth the effort to me.

            RE: Dynam Lights

As my favorite time to fly is dusk, I find modding with scale lighting really adds another dimension to flying. One of the components I am using are scale strobe lights from www.flytron.com/led-systems/99-strobon-navigation-strobe-light.html, they operate just like actual aircraft strobes, with a quick double flash and are available in several colors.  Sometimes they are not compatible with other Nv lights so I wire them seperatley and use a 9v battery for power.

The literature 3.5-6V. You have them working at 9V?

I have been replacing Dynam lights with the set from the FMS Sky trainer. They don't strobe but the leads are long and the lights are nice and bright.

I have been running them on 9v a couple of years now without a problem, the intensity is well worth it.

                    RE: Dynam Lights

I'm going to replace the (Red) landing lights on my Dynam PBY Catalina with the complete light set from GT Power that Motion RC sells.
For $14.90 you can't go wrong with these and it has everything you need. I've been using them and highly recommend them for anyone wanting scale looking navigation lights... :)

I guess it would just depend on what your putting them in. I put some in a 48 inch wingspan Hobbyzone supercub and I had just enough wire. anything bigger you'll have to add some wire length but its worth it. These lights are great and I fly my cub every night I get a chance. I couldn't sleep the other night so went out to the field at 1 am and flew for awhile and could see perfectly in the black of night.
Just kind of map em out first and get an idea where you want your wires and control module to go. I cut a small channel for the wing wires and taped em in and I have had no issues what so ever.
I also haven't noticed any difference in my battery drainage with the GT Power set....
