  • tried to register with FAA

How did I know there would be problems?!!! I couldn't register on line because I have an "old" computer. The site gives a number to register by phone. I called, only to be told I can't register by phone. I could only ask questions. They gave me the phone no. for the local FAA office for a paper registration application. The first person, basically, did not have a clue what I was talking about. The second person was very helpful and said he would send the correct application. Someone tell me... should I hold my breath?!!! :dodgy:  Doc

What are the browser limitation/Spec's for the FAA site? Your machine, operating system and browser seems modern enough to post here on Hobby Squawk? I assume it is also modern enough to place orders with MotionRC.

      Something sound a miss!

They said I have to upgrade to Windows 10. I don't have this problem anywhere else. Yeah, it does sound fishy. Doc

I'm not using Windblows 10. I would think that the site wouldn't care what the OS is, rather what browsers you are using. That might drive a need for an OS upgrade. I think the machine I used was running Firefox as the browser.

          All the best,

I know, but their site specified Windows 10 and a couple of others. I'll try my wife's new laptop when she gets home from her trip. Doc

              Hello Doc,
Finally succumbed to the fact that waving my middle finger at the FAA is an exercise in futility and as VP of our club I need to lead by example so I grudgingly signed up. I have a Win7 pro machine and blasted right thru the process without an issue and no where on that site did I see any specifications regarding what OS to use. Are you using this site ?? https://registermyuas.faa.gov/
              Best Regards,

RE: tried to register with FAA

Your link is the one I've used. A blue screen pops up immediately that says "unsupported browser...must use Windows 10 or higher. It gives an option to upgrade your browser but I have windows 8. It will not work. How the heck am I supposed to register?!!! I emailed the FAA about this but have yet to receive a reply. Do they just assume that everyone has Windows 10? Doc

I used my wifes new laptop when she got home from a trip... I'm registered. You can't register with Windows 8. It has to be 10. It is very quick and simple. Doc

Perhaps it is something else - I went to that site, and it was ready to take my registration, with no browser warnings. I'm waiting for the final word from the AMA before I actually register, though. I have Windows 8.1-64, and the latest Firefox update.

UPDATE: I just read the latest email from the AMA, and they say we should register anyway, as they are unlikely to get any changes before the deadline. So, I used that link and had no issues. You've got a problem with your PC, or the router you are using.

New to the forum and trying to find out all the info for requirements to register with the FAA. I have several park fliers that I fly at the school or park. Do I have to register? I am not a drone flyer yet...still like flying with wings :) Starting to research local clubs/fields and joining the AMA so I get smarter on this subject.

RE: tried to register with FAA

If it moves through the air and weighs more than 250 grams and you are 13 years or older, then you MUST register with the FAA!
Park Flier (not a legal term) or whatever, if it is a flying contraption (FAA term) it must be registered.

                          All the best,
                          Konrad

The site says 'drone', but the FAA means all unmanned, piloted aircraft; fixed-wing powered or not, helicopter, multicopter are all the same to them. If it is more than 8 ounces and less than 55lbs, you need to label it with your registration code.

You must register. The AMA is now saying to go ahead and register. Their battle will be long. Doc

I registered using internet explorer and Windows 7. I doubt you need to upgrade to Windows 10. You might check your settings to see if you have cookies turned off.

Windows 7 and Firefox worked for me.

I know OS X Yosemite Version 10.10 and Safari 9 has worked for others.

RE: tried to register with FAA

Just did my registration on my Kindle HDX, no problems. I got my number and printed labels with my name, phone, AMA number and my new FAA number. The labels I used were Avory #8160 (1" x 2-5/8" 30 labels per sheet) with my Print Artist program. I printed 3 sheets because you have to label every plane and drone over .55 lbs (250 grams) and I have a lot of planes and quads over that weight. It's a hassle, but accountability might be a good thing. Although the screwups, probably won't register anyway.
