That continued until I discovered girls, then went dormant until 1961, when I started flying free flight off a dry lakebed in southern Oregon, while an F101B interceptor pilot in the USAF. Turns out, I lost too many models that would not descend from flying over the hot lakebed, so I bought an F&M single channel radio on cb,and a Goldberg Falcon. I still have that tx & rx today. Also still have the Controlaire reed tx & rx & 5 Bonner Transmite servos. My early modeling experience influenced my entire life. After serving in the USAF for 6 years, I spent 29 years flying as an airline pilot. My r/c experience went through Orbit 4ch proportional to 2.4g 8ch Tactic & Spectrum today. Small a/c up through giant scale gas, and now back down to electric foamies. All have been a blast!

Very interesting history you have sir and as one vet to another. Thank you for your service :) Its nice you still have some of your older modeling items, wish I had more. I have been lucky enough to work in the hobby industry on/off, starting in the mid 70's and then again after leaving the military in the late 80's. I feel we are very lucky to be experiencing the big advancement in our hobby that has happened over the past 5 years or so. The thanks go to people like the crew at MRC and Diamond. I dont think they get enough thanks !

Grossman A+ sir, I second the welcome.... DJ

I agree with your comment about the services rendered by the guys at MRC, I have consulted with them several times, since I am a newcomer (10 mos) into the electric flying genre. I continue to be amazed at the variety, design, and price of these great "foamie" a/c. Also would like to add my name to the others requesting larger capacity LiPos for the 6S powered planes. The way I fly my Freewing ME262, I feel I am using the 5000 50C battery to its extreme limits.

Remember when, heck I’'m still living the dream!

Here is my Silver Seven (SS) from 1979. You had the option of buying one factory assembled or you could build it from a kit. To change the configuration you would swap out modules to have Expo, and a mixer, or and a snap button (I never understood that). Even the assembled factory modules required you to solder some components to bias the module to your liking. These were analog (Op Amps) devices and as such had some very minor idiosyncrasies. I’m showing a factory Expo module on the bottom left and a Expo/DR module kit on the bottom right along with the “Encoder Mainframe”.

I’ve included an ACE MicroPro 8000 Single Stick from 10years later 1989. Both radios have the great metal gimbals that did not distort in the summer heat. I still fly these but with 2.4 gHz RF modules.
The Silver Seven has been Spektrumized (DSM2 protocols). And the MP8000 had a Fr-Sky DHT, DIY module in it.

My teeth all but fell out when I saw that JR is also going backwards (sorry Retro).*

I'm sad to say that none of this "technology" has hindered me from making those long walks of shame going to and back from the smoking hole in the ground!

Yes, I assume you mean as a result of these square cornered white boxes.;)

Who cares about modern ergonomics, sometimes those classic Kraft boxes look so appealing to me!

Well said Alpha. I much prefer the older style TXs than the new ones. Most of the new ones are plastic and they don't have the same feel as a metal case.

Actually I do! That is why I love the Multiplex Evo. It is a much thinner TX and has indexable gimbals (Map the motion of your thumbs and fingers to see the value of this, pinchers vs thumbs). Then there is the very intimate relationship one gets cradling your Tx with the Single Stick configuration. Those metal boxes did not feel good with those corners pressing into you palms. But the added benefit of the metal box was the added grounding plane they afforded the RF deck to push off of (RF signals).
Looking at those old Kraft synthetic RF deck (AKA “Dial A Crash” an unfounded term). Reminds me that I saw the machine code (courtesy of Jef Raskin, one of the pioneers of putting the user in the forefront of user interface) for those PLL algorithms. This explained mathematically why we had some of the null frequencies on the TX.

                      All the best,
                      Konrad

I remember back before there was epoxy, film covering, or having never heard of radio control. I can recall ucontrol ZINGER, LEAPIN LENA, STUNTWAGON, and JETEX rocket motors. Had a free flight helicopter which had a jetex motor on each end of the flybar--- light em up and let it go. When the burn was over, it would autorotate down. AMA would not approve today. Also had a whole series of the early LANIER ARFs, with plastic fuselages, and contact paper covered foam cores for wings and empennages. How about DYNAJET speed models. I think part of my hearing loss can be because of those.
