  • A Useful Online Tool...

    Hey Guys,

I used to make my living on a motorcycle, so weather conditions were very important to me. General forecasts were great, but I really needed to know hour by hour conditions, and if I was going to have to park the Motor, and get a car. Since I started flying R/C about four years ago, I use this site as well. I retired in December, so I don't have to worry about riding, but it's still great to use to plan my flying day.

It's especially nice to look at the wind speed, for a given block of time. It was created for "real" pilots, but is great for scale pilots as well. Some of you may be already using it, but some may not have seen it, so I thought I'd put it out there. The link is set up for my area, but it's easy to change to yours. Hope this helps someone to plan that perfect day of flying!

I hate that motorcycle they make me ride. I'm here to tell you, there ain't nothing in the world I hate more than that elephant under my ass.

I completely agree. I have used this website among others for years for RC flying and full size.

Great site. The trick is to find a reporting airfield close to where you fly; in my case, it is only 3 miles along the river.

Another useful weather site is Weather Underground (www.wunderground.com). This is especially good if you have a lot of "stations" in your area. We have one less than a 1/2 mile from our club field and it provides real-time data as well as forecasts. I use it all the time.

Another neat little online tool I use a lot is www.onlineconversion.com. Mostly to convert grams and millimeters into ounces and inches.

Thanks FLTRI, a very handy tool, especially with the wind out here. What a perfect day for flying, got off work a little late, so I'm hoping for the same kind of weather tomorrow, charge up some batteries tonight and try for tomorrow, can you believe 60 degrees here in the Rockies??!!

Got P-2 in the air for two or three circuits but the wind was pretty gusty, so called it successful and came home. I do believe that is the earliest I've started a season.

No snow to be seen which is down right amazing.
