Hello.
I am wondering what fellow modelers are doing in their spare time these days?????!!!!!
Personally, have gone back to my "airplane building" roots.
Years ago, I used to build balsa wood kit airplanes for other people, along with building my own. Then the foam craze came in and "building" began to fade away as more and more planes turned into the "assemble it" style of aircraft. I ended up assembling various planes also.
But just recently, while looking around in my basement, I decided to scratch-build a plane out of left over balsa and Monokote covering that had been just begging to be used up.
As for the design I decided that I would use the: That Looks About Right (TLAR) method of construction.
It had been quite a few years since I had cut up some balsa wood and glued my fingers together with CA glue,
so I decided that I was ready to do so again.
But what should I build?
Well, I finally decided that I would just fly by the seat of my pants. I decided that I would build a wing first. It is a flat bottom wing with ailerons. Next, I built a fuselage for the wing. The fuselage is a tail - drager. Then I decided that I would insert the wing into the fuselage at the mid way point so the plane is a mid-wing design.
As you can see, I am getting fairly close to finishing the project but not sure as to when I will be able to test fly it.
By the way, if I decide to give the plane a name, I am contemplating the moniker of: Scrap Box. That would be fitting because of where the components came from!
Anyway, it could be interesting to see what other modelers are doing with their spare time!!
Finally, hopefully everyone is staying safe and sound and healthy!!!!!
