Welcome, owyheeguy! You are actually so right. To tell the truth, I'm just about as proud of my UAS registration as I am of my private license. It's really not that big o' deal! Nice J-3! That's what I soloed in, in 1963. Doc

Hi Owyheeguy and welcome to the forum. Personally, its not the registration so much as the fact that they're referring to drones any time its mentioned on the news, no mention of the fact that it includes R/C planes and helicopters as well. To me it's like penalizing gun owners for what someone does with a bow and arrow.
Besides, all that extra weight that this sticker is going to put on my planes, don't know if I can handle it (LOL)

The part that is annoying is:
The people who are causing the problems are the ones least likely to comply with registration.
The vast majority of RC fliers, especially AMA members have been operating using self-imposed safety rules that have worked for 80 years with no government interference.
The first RC event at the NAA Nationals (later to become the AMA NATS) was in 1936...
YES IT HAS BEEN 80 YEARS!
Now some :sick::sick: (censored) with more $ than sense buy quadcopters off the shelf with FPV and start flying in the landing patterns of major airports trying to get photos of airliner crashes... and its our fault?FF gliders and rubber power since 1966, CL 1970-1990, RC since 1975.
current planes from 1/2 oz to 22 lbs

Welcome.
Do a search on this forum under my name to get more detail. But the issue isn't safety rather power. The FAA is caught in a bind of poorly written mandates from congress. So to drive the issue they must work to the more restrictive mandate. That being the case registration without any technical competency offers no increased level of safety or competency. It's a sham the FAA knows it but they have been pushed into a corner. It will take some congressional or judicial ruling to actually get some common sense to this issue of UAS safety. As it is written and implemented the reg's the FAA is working to are just placing more burdens on us the people with no benefit to the people. (In my view this is criminal)
I carry these registration burdens with shame knowing that our elected officials really have no interest in true safety of our airspace.

Thanks Doc. It’s good to be here.
After I posted this I was afraid I had just made myself an outcast.
This forum is like being in a flying club. If you keep your eyes open you can pick some pretty useful information. For instance I’m going to use your Varathane idea on my J-3.Always fly in the middle of the air and stay away from the edges. Edges of the air are identified as trees, ground, water, buildings, etc.

Thanks Grossman56. I agree about the “drone” word. Even the model mags are calling them drones. What happened to multirotors for crying out loud?
I did find a way around the extra tape and paper weight. I just run my airplanes through my printer so the only extra weight is the ink. ;-)

Hi fhhuber. Thats the way our government solves problems. Dont go after the offender but go after everybody. NRA members arent the ones mowing down kids and teachers in the schools, but that doesnt matter the Feds say lets take away the guns of law abiding registered gun owners.
Damn I told myself I wasnt going to get political. Im going to get back to having fun now.Always fly in the middle of the air and stay away from the edges. Edges of the air are identified as trees, ground, water, buildings, etc.

If more people carried guns those offenders wouldn't mow down near as many before the threat they pose would be terminated.Originally posted by owyheeguy View PostHi fhhuber. First of all, like most everyone, I'm extremely upset that we have to comply with this new rule because a few people have screwed it up for everyone else. Enough said about that, but looking at the FAA registration site it appears they want you to BUY all your labels from them at about $10 apiece. From what I'm reading above, most of you all are just printing out duplicates of the one original you get. That is what I intend to do also. Why would I spend upward of $150 in labels for all my fleet? I bet someone will get caught somehow, somewhere with a counterfeit label and that will be the end of that.
I was just going to make mine postage stamp size and affix it to the underside of my planes. Might need a magnifying glass, but it's labeled.
Secondly, this just seems like another way a federal agency can suck more money out of us. Really now, you can force us to register, but why not just send us our certificate and label via e-mail and let us print it. Doesn't require a fee nor require them to make their labels. Hey, it's just a database with all our names and info on it. Isn't rocket science to produce or maintain. Not a justification for "force" charging us into having it in the first place. They should be paying us to use it as a thank you for participating!!!!Addicted to planes!

Hi Grossman56. So are you saying that you are happy with your Hobby Eagle A3L? I have an A3L in my Hobby King J3 Cub, and Dynam Tiger Moth but haven't done a maiden flight with either of them yet.Always fly in the middle of the air and stay away from the edges. Hey Owyweeguy!
I originally put an A3-L in my Sensei and it worked great on those real windy days. On Gman' s advice I put one in my Roc Hobby Waco when I got it and what a difference on those windy days. No more wacky Waco. Now all my planes have one. Great investment for a small price.
