Have been eyeballing that one for some time now awaiting a sale/free ship event. Am pretty confident that you got a Starmax version which if it is anything like the 1400 J3 and L-4 that HK sells it will be a rather robust airframe. Mine only butt ache with dealing with HK is non existent parts availability and their stupid shipping prices. Appreciate if you could look through the manual/assembly flyer and letting us know who the manufacturer is.
Best regards,
Sonic/ Unique is the manufacturer good reviews from what I have read so far The Red Bull one is the same in different colors and of course price...Parts are a worry of mine also I better treat it right LOL
Hey Bryan, good suggestion, the parts availability is something to consider, but that might be something for Flightline to consider, a 1400mm would be great!!
(Good to see you!!!!)
Gman ,
I gotta get you converted over to the 1/8 scale fleet sizing. In that scale the PT-17 is there at 48"(size of that Sonic) and would look proportionally correct when sitting next to your stangs. It would be great to have FlightLine or Dynam do this so there would be a parts source available. Also at that scale the more used 4S is a winner instead of needing the 6S power like you need for the 55"(1400) Pitts and it would be not as expensive also.......just my thoughts so how about getting onboard with me and whispering in Alpha's ear ;)
I have the Unique Models Stearman. It makes a good companion to my Dynam WACO. Since they are close in size, they look good on the flight line together.
Great looking PT-17 and I really like your custom work on it. Hopefully I can get mine up soon. Did the CG today and added 2.5 ounces to it.
Working on the FMS Stearman tonight.
Have been eyeballing that one for some time now ....
Hey Charlie! I picked this Stearman up as our winter project back when it was on sale at the end of last year. I'll bring it to our show and tell meeting next week. I'm hoping you can help with the final setup and maiden flight. :D

Yeah that's me (us)! I'm looking forward to seeing all the new additions to your squadron. :)
This PT-17 is a good size plane with a 4S, 40A ESC, 850KV power system, so I think it will have plenty of power. I also like the large 2.5 in. wheels for our grass field. And the bright paint and fixed gear should make it easy to see up in the air. I'm hoping to set it up so that it is fairly docile in the air.
Well Stan, welcome to the Squawk. A lot of good guys here that contribute a lot of valuable info about the sport. See ya Monday evening. Look forward to assisting you on your maiden and then you can fly it when I have the Waco up for a little biplane action over AGS.
Well I finally got out to the field and got this maidened with Charlie's help. After just three flights, I would say overall she is a great bird.
Here are a few things we noted:
1 - Work the control surfaces through their full range to relax the paint. My rudder was pre-installed with hinges, but the elevator and ailerons were definitely binding up the servos until we got them loosened up a bit.
2 - She needed a good deal of right rudder trim. This could probably be fixed by adjusting the thrust angle, but there is still plenty of rudder authority, so I doubt I will bother.
3 - I added between 2 - 2.5 ounces in the nose, and flew with a Zippy 3000 all the way forward in the tray. I don't have a CG rig, but she seemed to balance around the middle of the upper wing. She flew just fine inverted with very little forward pressure on the elevator.
4 - I need to add some non-slip shelf-liner to the battery tray to keep the battery from sliding backwards. The 3000 just fits in the tray without modification.
5 - She looks really nice in the air (comments from the peanut gallery were all positive :)), and very easy to see orientation.
I have an AS3X receiver installed, but flew with 0 gains. I'll play with increasing the gains a bit, but she flies nice without them. I may swap the AS3X into my old P-47 instead.
