I didn't realize control-line counted. Have to revise my first solo to around 1948 with a O&R 23 on spark ignition, with a plane bought from an older friend, of his own design(no name).

I also forgot that technically, I started back with the Air Hogs Aero Ace, probably the only air hogs plane that was actually very controllable. Also had an electric 1 channel cox rc airplane, with a magnetically activated rudder that could only go one way.

G'day Gang,
I can lay boast to three solo attempts..
The good old Cox PT-19 CL in about 1980 [they must have made millions of those things!]
Then into RC in the mid eighties and my first solo flight was with a 1.6 metre Ugly Stik [how many of those in different sizes?] with an OS .60 engine on board and then fast forward to the year 2011 and the ever unreliable Dynam Cirrus SR22 1400mm unit. It was way under powered to anything other than straight circuits and really bad loops. I was only ever game to roll it once and thought that is was not a good idea to do it again.
It was one of those 'moments'.

As I started RC flying about 11 years ago, I had the opportunity to crash a few hundred planes in an early version of Realflight before actually taking an RC plane up. After that training, I took the Hobbyzone Firebird Commander to the skies, which didn't go as well as planned. Ending my maiden with a mess of torn up foam in my arms was surprisingly a great first lesson to learn from this hobby. No matter your experience level, things sometimes go wrong. Some older pilots at the field taught me this at a young age, and I know I'll never forget it. I continued to practice on Realflight and got back to the skies with the Hobbyzone SuperCub and the Multiplex EasyStar, both proving to be great training RC planes :)

self taught..started with the Alpha 40 ...that plane was beat to hell and repaired so many times..but in the end I was able to master it. very first try lasted about oh maybe 5 seconds lol... second attempt went fine until I tried to land, bouncy bouncy bouncy until the nose gear gave out lol . after about 5 attempts I was finally able to land,refuel and go again.

I bought a Parkzone P-51D "Ferocious Frankie" back in 2007 or 2008. I had no experience, but the box said "You won't need anything to get this sharp-looking plane up and into the air. Everything that's needed to fly is included in the box!" Everything except skills, that is! Crashed and burned, never got it airborne. Sold on ebay for parts.

Came back in 2013 with the Champ RTF, after several crashes finally got the hang of it and started flying it in all sorts of conditions. That got me comfortable on the sticks.

Solo'ed my first 4-channel this year, a Parkzone Sport Cub S2. She's a real joy to fly.

All amazing stories that seem to have a common bond...first plane took a beating... I was no different...but I cannot remember the first plane I soloed on as it was back in the 70's when Futaba radios had the chrome gimbals and no servo reversing capability. Flew planes until the early to mid 80's when Heli's became somewhat flyable so I got into them even competing at the Nats in '90 and '91. Dropped out of everything RC around '93 until just last year. Got me an Apprentice S and re-soloed on it. Kinda' like riding a bike as my thumbs remembered what to do. Now because of electrics and foam I have a growing hangar of 13 planes, half of which are EDF's. It is so much fun again and and I fly as often as life permits.

Hobby zone mini super cub. It had the anti-crash technology in it. It was the only 72mhz plane I ever owned. I flew it in my back yard over soybean field. I took the wheels off and made it a hand launch belly lander. The anti crash tech would freak out every time I flew over a bare spot in the soybean field. Anyway after a couple of weeks of that I got a pz gunfighter mustang. Then I discovered RC clubs and the real adventure began!

:) It certainly wasn't funny to me at the time. But now I can look back on it and laugh. I also had to laugh when my brother told me he saw some guys demo-ing Rare Bears and he wants to get one. He has zero experience. I advised against the purchase and highly recommended buying something he won't break/hurt somebody with. We'll see if he listens...

I can't talk either, I guess, on a whim, I bought Big Beautiful Doll. I gave it second thought and also picked up a Parkzone Piper Cub, Ol' Weedwacker, no ailerons, just rudder and elevator. Man, that was challenge enough, the P51 sat as a goal to achieve. After Weed, came the Pandoras, a week of training with Dave Scott was a huge help. I went from just being able to fly the Pandora to flying all three of my Mustangs and my Pitts in a couple of months. All came home in one piece. Now, instead of BBD lining some garbage dump, she's my favorite Mustang to fly. Crawl/walk/run

I always wanted to learn to fly as a kid but that dream will likely not happen. R/C is as close as I will ever come but hey, how else would I be able to say I am an F-16 jock? I am living vicariously through this hobby and the latest technologies and offerings makes it possible.

My first plane was a ACE wizzard with a .o49 cox motor then went to the super star 40. Then finished my training on a easy sport 40. Frome their I was hooked and now have like 98 planes of various planes but perfer 67"and bigger 1/4 scale planes. I built the balsa USA 1/4 scale cub in 98 still have it flies amazing.
