I got my private license in "64"...nothing easyer. Then, around 2000, I decided to try RC. Boy!!!...a whole different ball of wax! Sheeze...I thought I was something, soloing full scale with only four hours of training. Learning RC knocked me down a notch or two! Doc

The funny thing is this.... an RC pilot doesn't have much trouble learning to fly a real plane.. But a full scale pilot can not make the transition very easily!! In my 30 plus years of doing this, the full scale pilots are the hardest to train at RC because they are so used to being in the plane and feeling things instead of seeing. It takes twice as long to teach them ..... So don't feel bad! Thats just how it is!

Well, as many have stated already, I flew uline as a kid, and flew whatever rc plane my dad was flying growing up, but never solo'ed. My first rc plane was the RTF Parkzone Radian. I chose the radian because i knew it would be very slow & easy and easy to learn on. From there I went to the Parkzone Sport Cub, then the E-flite Carbon Z Cub, then the Freewing Rebel 70, then the E-flite Carbon Z T-28, so my collection is up to 5 so far! I have my eye on the new E-flite Radian XL and the Freewing F86. we'll see.. Ron

Yep, seems about right. It took me over 2 years to learn basic RC helicopters after flying full scale choppers. Yet, it only took about 6 months to learn RC airplanes.

I soloed on a Sig Colt with a Fox .15 motor ~
I wound up owning that plane for at least 10 years, and it turned out to be a fun little snow flyer with some homemade skis!

Of course, I did re-kit one or two other planes before reaching success with the Colt -
And might have had a few re-kits since then, as well!!

Ya know, I can't remember what my first solo plane was. I think the actual first one was a Hobby Shack 150 foamie with a .15 on it. I remember the fuel made the foam a mess, more like a gooey sponge. LOL! I also had a Airtronics Q-Tee with a Cox .049 on it. I remember hand launching that once and as it slightly turned left while I was giving it more and more right rudder I realized I hadn't turned on the receiver. Oops.... Had to run a long way to get it back but I was 27 at the time and could still run. :)

I did the Sportsman S little cub, but as many stated earlier that really don't count being so small. Really the Apprentice S15e was the first larger plane I did my solo with.

Yup, also have several that didn't count. I started with toys like the Air hogs Aero Ace biplanes and the Magic Machine 3 in 1 paraglider. The latter (photo) flew like garbage haha. Then I got Hobbyzone firebird II. It had a turn radius of probably around 1/2 a mile.. So I could never really fly it successfully. I got into helis and didn't mess with planes until I got my Hobbyzone champ 5 years ago.

My first airplane I ever flown and owned was the original Hobbyzone Supercub that had ni-cad batteries and none of the good stuff it has now for beginning pilots.
I had never flown in my life and shown up at the field one day with it and just started flying. Never even had to have any help. HZ Supercub is still a plane I recommend for beginners.
My first bigger plane that had ailerons was a 40 sized gas trainer. I don't even remember the name or brand of it. But I hated cleaning up glow fuel and got rid of it after a year or so. :)

Absolutely impossible to control. Then I discovered the little Eflite guys. Bought one of each. Doc

I actually could fly them pretty well. I had a couple of them. I even had the one that was a 6 axis. Still got it, but it had a fin at the back of it and is now impossible to fly.
