Am I the only one?

That gets a new plane, and then my older planes sit and gather dust?

Short attention span, I guess. I'll have a favorite plane, and fly it daily. Then, the next shiny thing comes along, and the old plane gets put away while I mod, fly, repair and fly that one some more. I try to take out an "old" plane every now and then, and when I do I remember why it was a one time favorite. That said, I have five (yes five) 650mm warbirds that haven't been flown for over a year. I moved them around the other day, and they literally had dust on them. All are in perfect working order, and still have a slot in my DX8.

I made a promise to myself that I'm taking all five to the field next time, and give those one time favorites a good wringing out...

I commend you for being able to make your fleet last long enough to accumulate that many. I take 3 or 4 planes with me and try to get flights on each every time I fly. Because of acquiring a deceased club member's planes, I now own 14. Some might accumulate a bit of dust, but I try to rotate my choices.

I generally end up with nearly the same cycle but I usually have about 5 favorites at any given time. I fly those 5 and the others end up gathering dust. I'm in the unique position of constantly testing new planes so my collection grew completely out of control a long time ago. At this point I've given away more planes than I own. My garage holds about 30 planes comfortably so I try and keep my collection to 30 at any given time.

I like variety. I may bring a couple EDFs , my eflite supercub and a glider when I go fly. Fly the jets early when there's little wind. Fly the supercub in any Wind and land off the runway (if the weeds aren't too high) and maybe a couple glider tows while my jet batteries are charging! .......yes I have a problem.....I'm addicted to them all. ;-)

Now, and its not because of my amazing flying skills, I haven't lost a plane in the two seasons I've been flying, and now coming into the third, I don't know?
I should keep my mouth shut, right?
So, I now have ten planes, not counting the wife's Apprentice, two that are waiting for maidens, but the other eight have quite a few flights on them. Some of them I just love to fly, some are more challenging, but I'm slowly getting them dialed in, so I guess it depends on what mood I'm in.
I've already flown Pandora Two a dozen times, just to blow off the dust of the winter and see that new paint scheme in the sky, now on to the Mustangs and the Pitts and the P40. If they're not new, they've been modified through the winter which keeps my interest in them charged. The only one collecting dust is Ol Weedwacker (my Supercub trainer) and that's fine, she deserves it.

Now that I have a trailer, I can take them all! :D

Yep, was just saying that in 'All Us Intermediates...." amazing how Murphie's Law jumps up and bites your butt like that!

And it landed dead center of the gravel pit, just so she'd have another fifty feet to drop to make sure I wasn't walking away from that one!!
Then there were nine. But, like I said, the tail section survived so there's enough there for a rebuild! Parts are on the way!!

It a common issue.

You tend to fly the newer stuff the most.

And it gets worse.... Well over 100 planes occupying the house and just a few that get to the field on a regular basis.

I had a great record going for a while. Had one incident with Old Crow last year and replaced the landing gear on Pandora One as I clipped the top of a fence back in the Spring.
Old Crow was definitely repairable and is ready for the air again with a new 650kv and Pandora One got new gear and was back up the next day.
I noticed the same thing, hey, I've got nothing to do this afternoon, I didn't break anything.
So I stretched out my post flight inspections just for something to do!!!!!

Congrats! I love a flying day like that! I've only been in this hobby there years or so, and remember the first time I actually came home with nothing to fix. Those days are much more frequent now, but it sure does make you a good P&A mechanic while you're improving your flying skills...
