I've got the Neptune set up and now I gotta figure out how to fit all the hardware in that small compartment. Yorkie gave me very helpful tips on how to fit it all in. Now the problem is getting the time to go out and maiden it. More to come later.

I still haven't had the chance to maiden mine either. We have had rain off and on and my kids have been with me and I still need to do some creative cutting and fitting all the hardware in the Neptune. Winds haven't been so bad. From what I'm told it can handle a good wind.Still Learning:DComment

I'm not very confident in the cg either. With the recommended 1100 3s it's way tail heavy and with a 1300 3s it's close to the aft cg mark. I want a near calm day to try the maiden I don't want to fight any wind in case it is tail heavy. I really don't know what to expect from it. There doesn't seem to be a lot of information on them.Comment

A wing will surely be different. A guy at our club has a outlaw wing and we've clocked it at over 150 MPH many times with radar. It's something to see.Still Learning:DComment

Wings are kind of touchy to balance I've found FF. I have a Crash Test Hobbies 37 inch Assassin and it took about 6 or 7 tries to get it right. Luckily those Assassins are pretty much indestructible although every time it crunched into the ground I cringed. I didn't have any lead weights with me so there is about $2 of quarters riding in the front. LOL! My friend Jeff said it was like any other hobby in that if it doesn't work you just end up throwing money at it. Ha!!! Anyways, a tail heavy wing is just about uncontrollable so add some lead (or quarters!) to get it a little nose heavy if you can.Originally posted by farmflyer View Post

LOL Great advice Flygirl! The Neptune has a very small battery compartment that's suppose to hold the battery,ESC and receiver (Not gonna happen). Gotta do a few modifications when I get the chance. It looks like it will be fun to fly from some the videos I've seen and pretty fast and can be a slow flyer as well.Still Learning:DComment

They do slow up Pauly, yep! Two of us in our little club have the Assassin 37 inch wings and my friend Shane who has the other one routinely catches his and then throws it again in one motion like it is an RC boomerang. But he's nuts.... Hahaha! We've done combat with them by putting steamers on the end of the wings but ya know, when you are trying to hit each other it's almost impossible to do so. Still havn't flown the popwing but on the cg 2 1/4oz in the nose to balance with an admiral 1300 and 3 oz with the admiral 1100. That is neutral to slightly nose heavy at the center of the cg range. I'm also going to put some 3mm carbon fiber tube on each side of the battery cut out the nose is really flimsey there that should help keep it from breaking off so easily.Comment

I think you will really enjoy how this one flies. Certainly better low speed handling than an Assasin in my opinion. Good call on the carbon in the nose, I had to reglue that piece several times after it came off. I also flew mine with a 3S 2200 so that it didn't need much extra ballast to balance.Comment

Got my maiden on the pop wing today! Took me 3 times to get the launch figured out it kept nosing in before I could react to get it flying. 7 to 9 mph wind it flew pretty good not as twitchy as I thought it might be. I either need more nose weight or need to do more mechanical trim because I used all my down trim to keep it from wanting to climb very steep. On low throttle it would just sit and not move that was fun. I got a solid 6 minutes flight time at 2/3 or slightly less throttle. Don't let it get to far away it gets really hard to see not much profile.Comment

Great to hear Farm, they look truly different, I'm sure you'll get it worked out. Its always nice when they're not as twitchy as you expect. Not to get into another twitchy rant, right Bryan?

The other thing I recomend is to work the ailerons quit a bit by hand before hooking up the servos. The foam is stiff and binds the servos to the point of bending the control rods when they try to push the surfaces down so loosen em up good. When I get round two in I'll report back.Comment

Ok I got the popwing sorted out and these are Way To Much Fun! My issue turned out to be the wooden motor mount was not on level. Pay special attention when gluing it on. I thought I had it straight and level and set it aside to dry I guess it moved giving the motor a down angle. Being mounted on the back I guess it pushed the back of the wing down causing the nose to want to go up. I cut the mount off remounted it level. Did the second maiden today and it flys great. I used a 1300 3s admiral and ended up with 1/2 oz of weight to balance at 212 mm which is where it flew best for me. These are super agile and are pretty quick. I set it up at 60% travel on low rate and 100% for high with 40% expo on both. I flew 7 minutes on conservative throttle landed and checked the battery 3.97 per cell. I also can go up to about 200 feet and get 1 to 2 minutes of flight with no throttle. If you don't have a 900 mm techone popwing you should give one a try it's as much fun flying as I have had in a while.Comment

Glad you got that sorted out, the thrust angle can really make things fly strange! Performance sounds great on the stock setup! I ran mine with an exceed 1880kv on both 3S and 4S. It was a real rocket until it met its end 3 months ago. When I had a midair. I say me, not the plane, because a newer pilot hit me in the head with his FT delta when he was trying to land. During that time, the popping did a full throttle dive into the ground and was totaled beyond repair.Comment
