  • Garage sale find

I just bought a kit built 60" balsa/ply Chipmunk at a garage sale...$4.oo!!! The .60 engine alone is worth , at least. $40.00! It is in very good condition, but will require a LOT of work. I'm going to convert it to electric. Wow!!!... what a project! It's balsa sheeted, but then covered with some kind of fabric. I'm going to sand and fill then, maybe Monocote. Always wanted a Chipmunk! Doc

Funny you should find a Chipmunk! Lately, I've been thinking of the late Art Scholl, as Flightline is looking for some unique ideas for planes seldom modeled, I was thinking of a Super Chipmunk in his colors. Man that guy could fly!!! And it was so cool to see a Chipmunk with retracts!
I remember the air shows of the 60's and 70's when Bob Hoover and Art Scholl would both be flying, these guys were absolutely incredible.
I wonder if they'd do a plane like that........

It'll be a while. I've stripped it and disassembled it. The poor guy who built this didn't have a clue. Everything was caddywampus. The control surfaces were glued in! It's a Nitro Planes kit, no longer available. Oh,yeah... I'd forgotten about Art Scholl. What a pilot!!! Doc

Heck if I know! It was a fiber that would take 30 coats of dope to make it even close to slick. Doc
