  • Recommended tail dragger plane with really tough gear?

Im wanting a plane thats at least 1400, would prefer bigger ,that would be good for doing some rigorous landing practice constantly.
Im mainly going to use it when the winds are stronger than I normally fly in,so I can improve my landing skills ..that being said..it would need some tough gear ..mainly because Im wanting to do touch and gos. Not looking for any trainers though... just something cheap, easy to fix if needed ..with flaps....is this a tall order? lol
just dont want to use my warbirds for crazy landing speeds in high winds lol

    Hello TS,
From what you described and my perception of your expectations you are looking for is what I call an intermediate level trainer and the perfect framework for those desires of yours comes down to the Freewing Pandora. It's specs and features covers everything you've requested and more.

Like the old Timex commercial would say, this thing will "take a licking and keep on ticking".
    Best regards,

Having trained on the Pandora and while its a great plane I think the Flyzone Beaver is more robust and cost is pretty close depending on the model chosen and floats are a plus if you fly from water or snow. It also comes with flaps standard.

I don't know about the Pandora (It gets great reviews), but I agree about the Flyzone Beaver. I can't imagine an easyer plane to fly. Double your fun...land or water. Doc

hey thanks guys for the tips..was really looking at that Beaver, when I noticed it only takes 3S ...guess thats one thing I forgot to mention...have all 4S batteries..so would need something that takes that

I was wondering if maybe you were leaning towards 4S power since you mentioned not wanting to pound your warbirds.
So for that power then the obvious choice that I would recommend is the TechOne Air Titan. I have an advanced student that really puts this through it's paces and it should really push your buy button being a 1600mm spanned tail dragger with flaps.

            Good luck on your choice.

I think that might be the one...that gear looks very sturdy...something I can just act like a redneck with a mud buggy ..woohoo.. nice looking profile too...high gear so dont have to worry about prop strikes....I like the idea too that it can be swapped for floats later on.. think I'll be getting one. something I can come in fast touch down and go round for more without the worry if I screw up every now and then.

If they're offended then they probably don't know what the Rebel flag really stood for.

Living in Florida it's a big issue down here and I took some time to look into what all the flag hub- bub was about. That flag has stood for many many things over its history. The issue is what it stood for in it's last 'use' was not good. So that is what people associate it with. IMO all should just give it a rest...

I hadn't spotted this plane before. I have a HK Bushmaster that I hate the landing gear that it came with. For 18$ I'm tempted to pick up a set of the Titans gear to slap on it. Looks like modding the mount point would be fairly straight forward.
Yield to temptation. It may not pass your way again.

My Pandora has been flying for two years on the same gear and big foam wheels as a low wing taildragger. Love that thing.... Handles even longish grass with ease.

so I went ahead and glued the wheel back on last night...didnt think it would last long though, but man oh man, is this a super fun plane to fly... more than enough power for this airframe..I could do torque rolls forever..vertical..no problem! and the sound..I could swear I was flyin a fuel plane..sounded just like one..even better if I can go that far to say. while doin loops and rolls, sounded like I was at an airshow. I had 8 batteries to burn through, but luck would have it, that darn tail wheel broke loose on the 3rd landing..took it up a fourth time anyway..was just havin too much fun with it. it finally snapped off completely on that 4th landing.. definitely need to replace these big foam tires though with some low bounce ones...looks like a basketball on landings lol, even soft ones. no need to worry about spare props on this plane..just spare tail wheels, since that plastic mount is very weak..not much plastic there at the joint. I'll probably fashion a different ,sturdy mount for it tomorrow.
Speed..you have plenty...flys slow? though I was going to park it in the air..aerobatic? hell yeah! flight times I kept to about 5 minutes with my Zippy 3300s, that was full on redneck flyin too..lipos read around 380 at changeout. couldnt fit the 4000 in there, but may if I cut some foam on the sides. but the 3300s was plenty of airtime..so far the only negative I have to say was the tail wheel and bouncy tires...other than that this plane is super fun without any worries of stalling or breaking a landing gear.
